When I hold CTRL ALT F2 command line comes up and when I type in "cat /etc/os-release" to find out what version of Zorin I have, it says 'command not found' I tried numerous ways to type this command in, as the spacing between letters look strange, but I have not succeeded in finding out what version I have. It appears I need this basic info to ask questions, so I can offer that I bought the Latitude laptop from Mark37 in Oct 2023. I was not able to attempt to open the box until November 2025 (LIFE happens) at which time I was able to turn on the laptop, update all the software successfully, install my internet provider, get Brave browser working and look around at stuff. Today I would like to add my NORDVPN subscription to the laptop. NORDVPN instructions say to go to a command line and copy and paste their instructions to install. I opened the command line, pasted their instructions, hit enter, and for the last 10 minutes have not seen and signs of that command working. I held the CTL ALT F2 keys again and now the command line no longer shows up. Are there any video tutorials or classes I can take? I really am flying blind. Thanks so much.
For the command line you need the Terminal, which you can pull out quickly using Ctrl+Alt+T
Or from the app menu.
Ctrl+ Alt+ F1 through F6 drops you to a tty login screen. You don't even need shortcut keys. Just type Terminal in the menu search bar and press Enter.
Thank you for your quick response. There's a mistype in my question. At the end of my question I said I held the CTL ALT F2 keys again. I should've typed I hit the CTL ALT T again and nothing came up. BUT, Low and behold the little black box with a T suddenly showed up in the task bar at the bottom of the screen! . so I typed in the cat/etc/os-release and it worked! Name +Zorin OS version = 16.3 ID_LIKE Ubuntu. Thanks for your help
I still need to find some tutorials or classes for this older version.
