Need help…Zorin only boots to terminal after WINE install…what happened?

Hi All, trying it again…still only loads in terminal mode. No kernels older than 6.8.0.52 Says I am in a generic 17.2. No RAID no and no LVM detected, not sure what that means but hopefully that’s helpful to someone on here. Tried repairing broken packages but lists No candidate: for 6 things: gnome-browser-connector, gnome-shell-extension-zorin-connect, gnome-shell-extension-zorin-connect-browsers, zorin-additional-drivers-checker, zoho-mail-desktop, zorin-gnome-your-autostart
Anyone have any thoughts?

Sorry dash 52 not .52….Zorin OS 17.2 6.8.0-52 generic x86_64

Hmm ... would be a fresh Installation an Option for You? Is a hard Step, I know.

Yeah, I have considered it, and may have to m…just frustrating because then I lose the apps I have already installed. When I try to install desktop it says it can’t find it. Anyway to add it to repository or is that a silly question?

It comes from the Zorin Repo's. And in Your Comment above seems to be all Repos be there what should be there. So, why it doesn't find it ... I don't know to be honest.

We could try if other Desktops are detected. When You type apt list ubuntu-desktop does it show You a Result?

It says:
Listing…done
ubuntu-desktop/jammy-updates 1.481.4 amd64
N: There is 1 additional version. Please use the ‘-a’ switch to see it.

Okay, it found's the Ubuntu Desktop. And when You now type again apt list zorin-os-desktop what doesn it show?

It just says:
Listing….Done

Okay, only to check if it is only the Zorin Desktop that is not detected or if it could be that You can't reach the Zorin Repo's could You look for other Programs?

apt list zorin-appearance

apt list zorin-os-lite-desktop

apt list gnome-shell-extension-zorin-taskbar

apt list gnome-shell-extension-zorin-menu

Sure…give me a sec to put those in…ty for your help.:pray:t2::slightly_smiling_face:

Same exact answer for each:
Listing…Done

It’s not accessing any of the repos then?

Hmm ... it seems. At this Point I would suggest to make a fresh Installation. It isn't the best Option, yes. But I think it should be at least something whwere You should thnik about. Of Course You don't have to do it right now. You can wait if You get Suggestions for Actions from other Users here.

Ok, I appreciate your input. I realize the odds are good I may have to do that. I am going to hold out a little longer just and see if anyone has any other last ditch efforts I can try. It just stinks that one app can Jack up my whole OS like that. Fortunately I don’t have too much on it because I haven’t been using it for too long. Do you have any suggestions for how to back my OS up so if I accidentally screw it up again I can at least reinstall to last back up? I am Mac user trying to break free from the Big Tech matrix, so I don’t really know what I am doing yet, lol.

I would not wait:

I would go ahead and reinstall and get it over with. It usually is not as bad as a person fears.

Ok thank you.

Update: I was not able to do this from the terminal BUT I did reinstall on top of the old one, in the same partition, and it worked. It even somehow saved the folders and some of the installed apps from the old one!:dancer:t3:There is a little oddity with the boot up with REFind but it’s one I can live with….So far so good!:crossed_fingers:t2:
Thanks again for your help.:slightly_smiling_face:
