Network Manager not running

At any point, did you try switching to a non-regional server?

Well , Nothing on my part intentionally. Not sure how to get into that as I can't even connect my USB drive.

Shall ask the service guy to format the HDD and start fresh with my downloaded iso.

This is Lenovo G580 .
I guess I can move to 16.3 from lite. But am not taking a risk.

Was what I mean by changing the Download From: server.

Are you able to use the Main Server and get any further?

Sir,
Laptop now is not detecting even my USB drive let alone connecting to a network. Network is DISABLED.
There's no way I can get even to BIOS.

Shall ask service centre to format the HDD and reinstall my iso.
this is the solution I can think of.

But how Network was disabled is a mystery. I didn't do it.
Is remote disabling possible over internet?
:scream::thinking:

No, not really.

This is starting to look more like a network card failure.

Hi! All,
Started all over thanks to back up.
Should have had Timeshift. But that didn't work when I tried initially.

Anyway, ethernet works better than WiFi. Something in Zorin slows down it and shuts off while say software update, and it says not done and check your internet connection!

I'm happy with mobile tethering, however.

Many Thanks for helping here.

This is status quo. I don't like it. But am afraid to change as it might again fail. What do you suggest? Change?

I can only suggest using a mobile tether or Ethernet temporarily to install firmware-b43-installer and b43-fwcutter. The bcmwl-kernel-source wireless drivers never have worked for me - new and old BCM43XX devices.. One being a BCM4313 on an older MacBook.

This guide has how to install offline. Grab the two files and follow the commands to complete installation. Easiest way would be with apt but, you'll have to get your server stable first. But, of course, if not - grab the two files in the guide and install that way.

APN I have exact same issue you had. I Mean identical .
i had random droppouts on my Dell Rugged laptop under Zorin 16.3 pro, so changed power saver from 3 to 2 and lost the Network Adapter completely, even went to network settings under F2/bios .

no wifi, no ethernet , nothing.

lucky i have a spare throwaway pc that i can look for help with
(for all the good thats doing)

i think my main lesson here , dont mess with terminal if you dont understand what your doing, (thats me) blindly pasting in commands suggested in forum goes pear shaped..

i put my isntall usb in and ran zorin from usb drive,. low and behold network adapter works. so madly doing a backup and will fresh install zorin and hope i come out the other side unscathed. hope the backup does not reinstate the network fubar.

Definitely not a good idea :joy: If you are uncertain about a command - before entering, use man [command] to see the usage. Just fyi..

The B43XX devices have a pretty long history of either working or not working with STA wireless driver and b43-firmware driver (this has some mixed results on both drivers... old, very old). Have had several of the B43 cards myself - on certain kernels the STA driver works, on others the b43-firmware driver works :person_shrugging: It's a fickle mistress lol But, pretty easy to remove / install if one doesn't work!

cheers, Since reinstalling Zorin and loading my backup on the same laptop Ive had zero issues. No wifi droputs . Only pain was re-entering my passwords and application setting, they didnt save to the backup.

I'm 95% happy with the OS now . Theres nothing I need to go back to Mac or Windows for. Occasionally I get an ap hang & wish I had like force quit on the mac.

If that happens, open a terminal and enter xkill, then hover the X over top the app giving grief and left click - boom, gone!

Or, in System Monitor - the 'Processes' tab is much like the MS task manager; right click and kill / end process.. But, I favor xkill :smirk:

One of the first things I do on a fresh install is set xkill as the keybaord shortcut ctrl+alt+k
This way it can be accessed quickly.
If you ctrl+alt+k by accident and you have a blood-thirsty cursor vibing for a victim, just right click instead of left click and that cancels the xkill.

Never thought about doing that; good idea!
