I am used to windows in this regard, but I see no way to "share" the canon series 3500 printer, and it is not visible on the home LAN, how do people say find a hard wired printer connected to a PC?
Hi, I don't use Lite but my preferred method is to use 'system-config-printer'.
I can't do a video with Lite as I don't have it installed as a VM but it should be the same procedure.
From the unofficial manual for 18 Core:
if the printer is plugged into another pc, open http://localhost:631 on that pc and check the queue under Printers. enable Share This Printer in Administration, then add it from Zorin with ipp://host-ip:631/printers/queue.
Thanx, Ill get to this when my catarct op settles.
If the Canon printer is connected directly to one PC by USB, it usually won’t automatically appear on the LAN like a network printer. You generally need to enable printer sharing on the computer it’s connected to, then add it from the other machine using the shared printer or its network address. Checking the printer settings and CUPS on Linux may also help identify whether sharing is enabled.
They also need to be in the same workgroup (Zorin 18.x is a fork of Ubuntu 24.04):
" To make Ubuntu 24.04 machines belong to the same workgroup, you must manually edit the Samba configuration file to match the workgroup name used by other devices on your network.
1. Edit the Samba Configuration
Open the terminal and edit the configuration file using a text editor like nano :
sudo nano /etc/samba/smb.conf
2. Set the Workgroup Name
Locate the [global] section and find the line starting with workgroup . Change the value to match your desired workgroup name (e.g., WORKGROUP or a custom name like MSHOME ):
[global]
workgroup = YOUR_DESIRED_WORKGROUP_NAME
3. Restart Samba Services
Save the file and restart the Samba services to apply the changes:
sudo systemctl restart smbd
sudo systemctl restart nmbd
Note for Ubuntu 24.04 : To ensure your Ubuntu machine is visible in network discovery (especially to Windows clients), you may also need to install and enable wsdd-server :
sudo apt install wsdd-server
sudo systemctl enable --now wsdd
Additionally, ensure that map to guest = bad user and usershare allow guests = yes are present in the [global] section if you require guest access.
