It should take only a few seconds. It might take a minute at most.
It should have completed by now, so - the package hung.

sudo killall dkms
sudo apt-get remove --purge bcmwl-kernel-source
sudo apt update
sudo apt install bcmwl-kernel-source

What does
dpkg -l | grep bcmwl-kernel-source
That command seeks to verify whether the driver installed at all, not at all, or partial.
ii bcmwl-kernel-source 6.30.223.271+bdcom-23ubuntu1.1 amd64 transitional package for Broadcom STA Wireless driver
This shows just the transitional package, not the driver.
Well that explains why nothing is working.
Each time you tried to install it - it never installed, only holding the metadata.
Can you launch software & Updates and switch the Download from section to main server?
Close Software & Updates then allow it to refresh when asked.
Once done, run in terminal
sudo apt update
Then check:
apt search bcmwl
If that still only lists the transitional package then... it would appear that by Zorin OS 18, bcmwl has been completely dropped...
bcmwl-kernel-source/noble-updates,now 6.30.223.271+bdcom-23ubuntu1.1 amd64 [installed]
transitional package for Broadcom STA Wireless driver
Terminal also says that there are 7 packages that can be upgraded, if that means anything.
Well, it means you can do some package upgrades. But, it won't help the wifi issue.
I checked all the Noble repo - and only the transitional shows.
So, I pulled the .deb from the Ubuntu 22.04 repository:
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/restricted/b/bcmwl/bcmwl-kernel-source_6.30.223.271+bdcom-0ubuntu8_amd64.deb
Which you can download then double click to install.
Let's try that.
Error while installing package: installed bcmwl-kernel-source package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 10
That is yet another DKMS failure.
This makes me believe the later kernel on Zorin OS cannot support the older package...
How do you feel about downgrading the kernel?
If up for it:
sudo apt install linux-image-5.15.0-83-generic linux-headers-5.15.0-83-generic linux-modules-5.15.0-83-generic linux-modules-extra-5.15.0-83-generic
You will need to reboot... Then at the Grub Menu, select Advanced Options for Zorin
Then select Zorin on 5.15.0-83 to boot into that kernel. Then run the bcmwl .deb self installer package you downloaded again...
IF it is successful, we must take MORE steps to ensure you stay booting into the 5.15.0-83 kernel since the next time you boot, it will boot into the 6.whatever kernel and again and the driver for wifi will stop working.
Scrap all of that. I just realized that the 5.15 kernel is not in the Zorin OS 18 repository.
Sigh.
It is getting late in my TZ so I will not be able to respond for a while to any further messages but I appreciate your help so far
My sincerest thanks for working through this predicament with me
This one is tougher... But given all of the above, you may be better off on Zorin OS 17.3.
It has the older kernel and the driver in the repo.
It is still supported.
Something to sleep on.
The Alternative would be to use the Mainline Tool and get this Way the 5.15 Kernel. but I don't know if this will work properly with the dkms Thing.
I wouldnāt mind downgrading, I donāt see any reason why I shouldnāt.
Iāll give it a shot later today
Ok, how should I proceed? I do not have anything important saved on my PC currently so I am not concerned about data loss but I want to make sure if theres anything I need to do first
Other than backing up any data, there is nothing critical to do.
When you boot the LiveUSB of Zorin OS 17.3 or Zorin OS 17.3 Lite, select the 'Wipe and install" option and that should take care of any disk cleanup.
Tried and repeated just about every step in the trial mode which resulted in near identical results (sometimes submitting certain commands didnāt produce anything at all)
Iām a bit at a loss, not sure if I would need to downgrade again or choose a different distro entirely?
Can we clarify if you mean the Try Zorin or the Installed Zorin OS 17.3?
Let's take the steps one at a time in thread. It is possible that switching distros can help - depending on if other distros have more support built in for those drivers.
Maybe MX Linux or Mint might... But the cutting edge end of distros like Fedora would laugh at you and tell you to buy a new computer.
I do not know if other distro's go to the extent of backporting this stuff, though.
I do know that the 17.3 repository contains the packages we need.
So, going per step is the logical choice.
apt search bcmwl
Try Zorin, I was under the impression that the process wouldn't be different than if I fully installed 17.3, but I can do so if I'm completely off base
Either way, here's what I get
bcmwl-kernel-source/jammy 6.30.223.271+bdcom-0ubuntu10~22.04.1 amd64
Broadcom 802.11 Linux STA wireless driver source
That is the actual package, not a transitional redirect - so installing it would install the driver.
After install I get the same result
