I think your machine has NVidia card and might need to edit grub.
For example:

No Splash on boot, just black screen + Short Black screen after logging in?

Zorin OS 16 contains a Plymouth loader Splash Screen that should be visible during those times. I suspect that the reason you are not seeing them is because of the Nvidia Card not loading until after init runs. It is a small detail and may or may not be worth trying to fix as making a fix for it may cause other Nvidia card issues. You may try the nomodeset option, first. Before we can explore that, must ask: Do you have Nividia and Intel graphics or just Nvidia? If you have Nvidia and intel, then when you boot the LiveUSB and see the Grub Menu (Try or install Zorin), tap either the tab key or the e key to edit the rub configuration.
