No internet connection, possibly because I tried using a vpn

okay so I'm STUPID with computers and I'm sensitive about it so please be nice. anyways, I installed Zorin OS like half an hour ago? tried to install a vpn (v4freedom specifically) but couldn't use it because it needed administrator access. tried giving it via terminal, it seemed to have worked so I connected to the vpn, but I had no internet connection with it on, so naturally after trying to use it for a few more times I uninstalled it. now I don't have any internet connection at all? I'm pretty sure the problem is tied to the vpn, but I don't know how to fix it the way I did on mac where I just added a new location in the settings and then deleted it and it caused mac to stop being confused about my location or something. this kind of thing happens to me from time to time regardless of OS or device, so I figured there must be a way to do a similar thing on Zorin, but I can't find it in the settings. and before you ask, yes, I absolutely need to have a vpn because I'm in russia and without vpn practically nothing works here. it's almost like china at this point, so me possibly breaking my computer for a measly vpn because I don't know how computers work was stupid, but not unreasonable. feel free to ask any questions because I highly doubt that I explained my problem properly

Hi,
If your VPN connection itself is OK, adding these 2 lines to your /etc/resolv.conf should fix it:

sudo nano /etc/resolv.conf

Append these lines to the content:

nameserver 8.8.8.8
nameserver 1.1.1.1

and exit (Ctrl+X). Asked to save enter Y

This fixes the name resolution with 2 public DNS servers, which are hopefully not filtered from your location.

IMHO I would not contemplate using this "free vpn" If it's "free: YOU are the product! There are a few exceptions to this rule number 1. being Proton VPN Free, it is 100% safe 2. Windscribe and there are 1 or 2 more that are considered safe. This "v4freedom" is NOT one of them. The Proton VPN app is in the Zorin App Store, just sign up for a free account and 100% it will work and NO Administrator access needed.

I think russia blocked proton vpn, but I'll try it, thanks!
I've been using a paid vpn that can be paid from russia, but they sadly don't have it on linux
