You will need to power down and take anti-static precautions to change out the card.
Once done, when you boot, you will likely boot into llvmpipe.
So, it is not a concern in that front.
From there, you can install the new propietary
sudo apt-get remove --purge '^nvidia-.*'
sudo ubuntu-drivers install
The above will get you to the latest support recommended driver.
I am using the RTX 3060, and currently, I am using the 580 driver. So, if you want a later driver, you will need to add a repository and then install that driver - let me know if you would like to do that.
With Secure Boot disabled in BIOS (If you go above the Zorin Default, the mainline kernels are likely not signed by Microsoft)
