Hold on, try this first please!
CTRL ALT F2 to enter terminal.
sudo apt install --reinstall gnome-software
Now after running that, restart the computer.
Then go back into your additional drivers, and see if you can install the Nvidia 555 driver. If you still can't install the driver from there, you have serious issues going on that need fixed.
