(Nvidia 930M) Am I using the correct driver?

My dell laptop has a geforce 930m graphics card, By default the driver is set to using 560 but I check on google and it says to use 387 driver.

Should i change the driver? if yes then please guide me as I am still new to using Linux.

Hi and Welcome. Your screenshot indicates you are using the driver highlighted. If you are not having any issues, leave well alone.

I am unable to wake my laptop connected to a monitor from suspend if i keep the laptop lid closed. I only can wake it after I open the lid.
Nothing happens when I press keys on my keyboard/mouse while my laptop lid is closed during suspend.
Is there any solution to it ?

See if anything in this nvidia dev forum helps:

Welcome to the Forum!

You could switch to the 390 Driver but in this Case it is possible that You have to use an older Kernel because the 6.8 Kernel on Zorin couldn't support this older Driver.

I get this error when I try to install 390 driver :

The kernel needs to be downgraded as well with the 390 driver!

I think the issue with suspend is not related to the graphics driver as it still works normally when I keep the lid open. But still I would like to change the driver as I saw in their website that 560 driver is for much newer graphics cards and my one is very old..

Firstly. Thank you all for trying to help me.

Could you please guide me on how I can downgrade the kernel and install the 390 driver ?

Your card is still supported for the latest drivers 550.xx i would suggest since 560 has alot of issues. If 565.77 pops up you can upgrade.

I think I already have the 565 driver on the list. Should I download and apply this driver?

560 your using. if you select 565 you will get the latest one

560 has alot of suspend issues and IS driver related. It is fixed in 565.

I just selected the 565 driver and clicked apply then I got this error:

There is no description of the error except the (!) sign.

Well you always could try to install it manually.

By downloading it from their website? Or is there a command that I need to put in the terminal ?

Yes and follow my tutorial

Hold on, try this first please!

CTRL ALT F2 to enter terminal.

sudo apt install --reinstall gnome-software

Now after running that, restart the computer.

Then go back into your additional drivers, and see if you can install the Nvidia 555 driver. If you still can't install the driver from there, you have serious issues going on that need fixed.

:slightly_frowning_face: Sure I will do it right now

I did it and I got a error at the end:

I will reboot now, just after posting this.

Okay so I rebooted my laptop and now when I come to the additional drivers tab it shows that I am using 390 driver  . Does this mean my issue is solved ?
