NVidia GeForce GTX 680M Driver Error

I'm currently running Zorin OS 17.2 Core, on an Alienware M17xR4 Laptop with a NVidia GeForce GTX 608M discrete GPU. I have attempted to install the recommended nvidia-driver-390 through the software updater, but get the following error:

I even tried installing from the Kelebek repo, with:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:kelebek333/nvidia-legacy

sudo apt update && sudo apt install nvidia-driver-390

but it also errored:

dpkg: error processing package nvidia-driver-390 (--configure):

does anyone have any advice? Here is my sudo lshw -C video

I think this has to do with your kernel. This one has to be downgraded in order to get the legacy driver to work.

Yup, after a bit more research it did indeed appear I needed to roll back to a 5.15 kernel to use the older NVidia 390 drivers... however I botched the rollback (badly, hosed the OS entirely). So what I ended up doing was just installing Zorin 16.3 Core which already used the 5.15 kernel and all was good.
