Questions:

  1. Zorin 18 was installed freshly - without any upgrades from 17.
  2. I do have x11 environment with gnome installed.

I do have 2 issues with it.
1st issue is - after opening for example a web browser or a game which wasn't installed via steam with dedicated graphics card (nvidia in this case) I am getting 2-3 second of freezings. After I open it with integrated gpu (amd radeon 610m) everything works fine. What may cause those issues?
2nd issue is - after I put the machine with (windows + L) and the machine goes with screen off I am getting x11 environment crashes - it says to logout and then login. After doing it, my whole desktop is reverting to the position in which it was installed (gnome). each time I have to set up everything. How may i check it and fix it?

In Windows OS, Control Panel > Power options - Is Fast Startup (or Fast boot) disabled? It must be disabled. Fast startup is not a startup or boot at all. It is hibernate, so Windows will retain control over the hardware.

What Nvidia card are you using and which driver?

Does windows os have "the power" to take over every other os which is installed in any other hdd separately? If yes, then I have to check and then disable it...

the graphics card is nvidia geforce rtx 4060.
the version of the driver is 580.95.05

Yes, it does.
If Windows OS is hibernated, it is not shut down fully - so it can maintain its hold on hardware.

Please turn off Secure Boot in the BIOS. Its a Windows only feature, and does not work properly on Linux. Also, since you have an Nvidia GPU, make sure when you are on the login screen, after clicking on your name, when the :gear: icon appears on screen, click that, then click Zorin OS Desktop AKA X11, do not use Wayland!

I just checked. The hibernation / fast startup on windows is disabled.

Secure boot is off in the bios as well.

I am on x11 (not in wayland - I know it has a lot of issues with multiple screens)

Having the same issue but in a desktop PC with a RTX 4060 Ti

I have removed a few nvidia drivers, by reinstalling others in order to check those 2 problems, but it seems like I am still having crashes after waking the pc UP as well as after opening other software with nvidia dedicated graphic my desktop freezes for likee 2-3 seconds, works few minutes and the same thing happens
Any other ideas how to solve it?

I have restored my working Zorin 17.3 version and I do not have the crashing problems. I just checked OptimusUI software and I do have settings as follow:
"Runtime - Prime mode to be used while system is running" - set it up to nVidia
After checking nvidia system monitor, it seems like a lot of apps is running under Nvidia without causing and freezes nor crashes while I make the system info sleep mode. Of course the power profile I have set for Efficiency. I guess it solves for me those issues.

I managed to solve this by downgrading to nvidia-570, the crashing stopped immediately! Secure Boot is ON on my machine (as I play games under Windows which require it to be on) but the drivers are loading properly on both 580 and 570 and MOK keys are enrolled

This seems to be an upstream issue, as I also had the issue on Ubuntu when I briefly tested it
