Old Asus comuputer not working right -- is it bricked?

so my computer will lag trying to open the Bluetooth settings -- and then will crash and tell me that the power button won't work (1 hard reset later) it opens to the Intel graphics and said boot is damaged, reboot and select proper boot device. If it's bricked, it's bricked, so don't hold back if it is. I appreciate the help guys

UPDATE: is opening but just sitting on the loading screen -- and won't progress. just got the Zorin logo flashing. no progress. nothing.

Can you relay what GPU you are using?

Was this a symptom after installation - or has Zorin OS been installed for a while and this symptom just began?

(I do not see anything to conclude a bricked system yet.)

  • Is Your BIOS in UEFI or Legacy Mode?
  • What Tool did You use the create the Boot Stick?
  • Are Secure Boot and Fast Boot in BIOs disabled?
  • Could You post Your Hardware Specs?

Ok, so I don't actually know, this was a refurb i won in a contest -- I can let you know in a little bit if i can get into the computer. If you guys can't figure it out without this stuff i can just trash it's from 2007 lmao

it does use OpenGL and a very early version of Vulkan if that tells you anything.

UPDATE: i told ChatGPT the model number and it gave me the possible parts on the inside:

  • CPU: Intel Core i3 or i5 (2nd gen, “Sandy Bridge”)
  • Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 3000 (integrated)
  • RAM: 4GB DDR3 (usually upgradeable to 8GB)
  • Storage: 500GB–750GB HDD (slow by today’s standards)
  • Display: 14-inch, 1366Ă—768
  • OS originally: Windows 7

oh yes and zorin has been on this computer since it was refurbed in 2023. If you can remember you helped me with this dev sda error (lol just got that fixed and its broken again)

When you boot, can you access the grub menu?

If you can: Proceed to
"Advanced Options for Zorin"

Select to boot the option "Zorin On 6.14..."

Do Not boot the option for "Zorin On 6.17..."

If you do not see the grub menu, stab the esc or the tab key furiously to see if that makes it appear.
With your finger, I mean. Not a knife.
Once it appears, proceed to the 6.14 kernel option above.

With these Specs ... maybe Try an older Kernel. You are on Zorin 17 or 18? Please check what Kernel is in Use with the Terminal Command uname -r

I would -- again, it won't let me into the computer unfortunately. would you like an image of what i'm working with?

Yes, that would be nice.

WOW 2007? If the computer is that old, it probably would run better using Zorin OS 12.3. If none of the previous answers are able to help you, before buying a new computer, you could always try Zorin OS 12, as the date of its release, is much closer to the age of your machine, and would likely run much better. Only thing to note, is that its an outdated no longer supported OS, so don't use it if you need ultimate security. Here's the link if interested...

ok i've opened the computer and it's hit me with a new screen -- it's the busybox terminal I think. The kernel number is 6. 5 0-26-generic.

haha yeah if it's bricked it's no big deal, i'll go buy something that can run windows 10 and not have problems running a PS1 game.

this is the image of my computer terminal it opens to -- what's next?

the whole computer is on 6.5 and i'm running recovery mode. will let you know what happens next.

LMAO it's the same dev sda error -- thanks for you guy's help. I'm either going to reinstall an older version or just reinstall windows 7.
