One of the best things about Zorin, dark mode

I have never tried a distro where dark mode was respected like Zorin. I believe it works on every app I have.

Yes, and it is good and bad, there are programs where you need light mode, at least in my opinion

Just change the theme parameter

GTK_THEME=Adwaita-dark 'App_Name'

and edit into its .desktop file.

It sounds good, but I'm not a linux expert and my understanding of linux and what you can do with script and terminal is zero, so I just use Zorin and its programs as they are.
I use Zorin because I don't want to use Windows and because Zorin looks a bit like Windows with install and uninstall programs. I am too old to learn linux programming, although I have learned a little in using the terminal with installation and uninstallation.

But it won't switch to light mode when you want it.

No, but if you know an app you want to be in light mode continuously, you can direct it to a light theme of your choice.
But it will soon be obsolete as the next version of Zorin OS will be with full blown Adwaita themes.

what will be different in version 18?

That you can't use themes like before.

I couldn't agree more, I like my screen to be on the dark side, it saves my eyes from experiencing blinding terror.

Can you please expand on this more? I use third party themes now on Zorin 17.2, so I'm very curious. Will we only have the standard Gnome theme, or will Zorin's themes also be available (Zorin Blue-Dark etc)? Also will we be able to use third party themes?

There'll properly be themes available of colored Adwaita themes like Zorin-Dark-Blue, but no third party themes.

Many third party themes do not currently work, even on Zorin OS 17.

There are some workarounds, including one from a "libadwaita-without-libadwaita" workaround supplied by the ZorinGroup - even so many indie themes do not work even if many still do.
Themes Do Not Break Apps.

...until Gnome decides they do.

I have now noticed that some indie themes will crash apps on Gnome Desktop 43+ and using LibAdwaita workarounds.

Gnome is Winning.
