One of the biggest channels on YouTube switched to linux

I don't watch him myself, but with 110 million subscribers I think it's fair to say he's one of the most popular people on the platform

And while the video was about building the PC and didn't show anything about installing the OS... that taskbar is clearly the one from linux mint

And then there's this:

Link to the video, in case anyone here wants to watch it

I never used to watch him at all, still don't really. But since he "retired" and just uploads whatever he feels like, the few videos I've watched of him more recently are actually quite good and laid back versus his very.... younger orientated gaming content he used to do lol.

Is it Mint Ubuntu or LMDE?

What is Mint Ubuntu? I Googled and didn't find anything.

In his video, it appears to be Linux Mint with Cinnamon DE.

Ponce is referencing if he's using either Linux Mint 22 (based on ubuntu with cinnamon) or if he's using LMDE (linux mint debian edition) (which also uses cinnamon).

I'm not sure, probably ubuntu, but I don't know for sure

The mint team does a pretty good job at fixing the snap mess canonical put into ubuntu, so both LMDE or the ubuntu one would give him a good experience

I would guess it's the Ubuntu version, since that's what's more prominently visible for download. The LMDE is sort of a backup project of theirs, and it's a bit hidden away, unfortunately.

The only thing I hope with this is that things don't blow up like it did with Linus Tech Tips, otherwise it might blow back on the Linux community

He did say he's loving it so far, and even shows himself setting up the sponsorship through the terminal for a moment, and he does seem to have purposely went for an AMD-only system, so I'm pretty sure he's doing enough research to not type "sudo apt remove cinnamon-desktop"

Also, Mint is a hard one to break. You have to be doing something incredibly specific or purposely complicating things to break anything, as most things can be done with a GUI out-of-the-box

I'm looking forward to having an AMD only system myself. I'm specially interested in getting a semi-decent GPU in order to run some local generative models 100% offline, at least to play with them to see if it's a feasible idea.

Someone might want to reach out to this Youtuber and try it out for me (I'm sure he has the money for it  )

Do tell me the story!

Enjoy!

Disaster starts at around the 10 minute mark.

Like @applecheeks37 wrote. I meant Linux Mint 22 with Ubuntu Base.

In my Opinion was it good to start this. The Snap Way goes further and further. And now I'v heard that Ubuntu wants to replace the GNU coreutils with an own one called uutils. I don't really understand the Why here. What Linux Mint will make with this could be interesting to see.

I'm glad they did and foresaw something like this happening. Keep in mind that the 25.10 release of Ubuntu is mostly experimental, and even if it becomes a reality some time in the future there'll be plenty of time to make LMDE the new default.

As far as I understand it, it starts in 25.10 but will come in 26.04 LTS. That is the Reason why I'm a bit ... concerned. I mean, they don't change anything except write it in Rust. It will not be faster or more secure. So, I don't see why they should make that. But okay.

The Thing is: this will affect Zorin, too. Of course not now or in Months. In Years first. Maybe it would be good to think if switch the Base to Debian would be an Option. Of course not for Zorin 18. But maybe on Zorin 19. Not an easy Way because they would have to support a System what have Ubuntu as Base and one that have Debian as Base.
