This is an interesting project made by 1 student, a tool to directly swap Windows to Linux (Kubuntu) I imagine with some help this project might be a lifesaver for some W10 users come October EOL
The video isn't the best quality or easy to watch nevertheless interesting.
Its a really cool project and tool and definitely makes life easier, the lad himself mentioned he was working on making it distro agnostic later on which would be phenomenal.
I saw this mentioned a few days ago and refrained from mentioning it here as it's still in its infancy by his own admission. If, however, he gets it truly working on more than just Kubuntu, it'd be pretty great.
I decided to do a search for migration tools. The first one that came back was Feren OS which offers a migration tool. I had forgotten about this but have never tried it, and suspect it is merely data migration. I then used Brave A.I. search engine which came back with this interesting article about 'Emergency Migration' (I need to warn you that this article contains bad language, but it did make some salient points about Microsoft and Apple). It is old from 2015.
However, a more recent article by a different author should be used as a wakeup call to the 'ignorance is bliss' brigade:
I think whatever migration tool presents itself, users should backup all their critical data beforehand, just as if starting again from scratch. The second link reminded me of my abject horror while attempting to upgrade some off network computers to Windows 10. At home my eldest's machine was running Windows 8.1 Pro which I got at a discount through work, and youngest was running Windows 7. When I entered my username it came back asking if I wanted a link to computer's at home and it actually identified the names of the PC's at home so I immediately removed my user account. How insidious is that?
