It's G.skill 6400 MHz C32
But maybe it's specific to the RAM.
I'll see if anyone has any DDR5 I can lend me.
Use EndeavourOS to try. I bet it will work just fine.
Nothing unconvenient in my Opinion. But whon knows ... Is the RAM manually overclocked or does it run in XMP/EXPO Profile?
Just to add, If it is running in XMP/EXPO, just disable it for testing purposes so it defaults to DDR5 base speed (is it 4800 for ddr5 or 4000? Never remember). Even using a "supported" XMP/EXPO profile can cause a whole host of issues, and even though you're running intel, they support both DDr4 and 5 for that generation, and since it was the second gen to support ddr5 (12 being the first), this wouldn't surprise me that it would be the case.
Hello,
EndeavourOS is currently downloading, but I have almost no doubt it will pass.
So yes, XMP was enabled
I just tried disabling XMP and nope, "out of memory" as usual.
To answer, it's 4800 MHz as the base speed.
EndeavourOS is installed, with this one, that makes 5 Linux distributions that work perfectly.
Just out of curiosity, try Q4OS and PCLOS Debian Plasma. This is purely out of personal interest. Understand if you don't have the time.
I download them and try
Well ... then I would say at this Point that You should use one of the working Distro's and wait for Zorin 18 and then try it again. Or - like already suggested - try it with different RAM.
Spontaneously I have another Idea what You could check: Zorin 17 is based on Ubuntu 22.04. You could try it with Ubuntu 22.04 and see if that works.
How do I try Zorin 17 with Ubuntu 22.02?
Sorry, wrong Writing. I corrected that. I meant that You could try it with Ubuntu 22.04 directly to check if You have the same Problem with it like with Zorin 17 because Zorin 17 is based on Ubuntu 22.04. The Thing is: You already wrote that POP OS worked. And when You have used the normal POP OS Version and not the Alpha, it is based on Ubuntu 22.04, too but have a newer Kernel.
You can download it here:
I vote for sticking with Endevour OS, just so you have a working computer to use. Then when Zorin OS 18 is released, I would then try that.
I'll download and try this, I have nothing to lose.
It's really not bad, but you'll laugh, I didn't find out how to install software (Steam, discord, etc.) I'm a complete novice on Linux
Endeavour OS by default wants you to use either pacman or yay (through the terminal) to install things. So for example, say you wanted to install Discord, you could type:
yay discord
In the terminal, then it will return a list of options from where you wanted to grab it (which repository). You can then enter the number of the desired package (or packages) you want to install, then hit enter and continue with the install. There's more information for yay here:
How to Use the Command 'yay' (with examples)
Finally a lesson on endeavour OS on how to install packages. I noticed in the PCKOS Debian screenshot one of the error messages mentions unable to enumerate USB and spotted your bizarre webcams. Was wondering if that might be an issue, but not the issue.
So, Ubuntu 22.04 is not working "out of memory" it is indeed this which prevents me from installing Zorin it seems
I see, thanks.
I'll have to do a lot of research. It's not specifically designed for beginners, but it will be a good challenge for me.
I have a webcam and a trackir 5 maybe one or the other that is not supported
Okay, yes ... then I would say that You should choose one of the working Distro's and You could later test Zorin 18 when it is released if it works. Or maybe You are then happay with Your Choice and don't need it anymore.
Because of EndeavourOS: I wouldn't suggest that for a Beginner. With one of the other's that You name - especially Linux Mint - You should be go better. Of Course, You have to like the Cinnamon Desktop.
So, that here might not be the best first Experience but I hope You will give Linux in common a Chance.
Yes, I'm going to have no choice but to wait for Zorin 18
Mint isn't bad, but there are some issues I haven't been able to resolve with my 5.1 system.
I think I'll opt for Fedora 41 while I wait for Zorin 18.
I haven't given up on Linux; I'm going to try it for weeks and get the hang of it.
