Partititioning on new install

Installing Zorin OS

I am intending to install Zorin on my PC, without any other OSes. My PC has 3 SSDs. I intend to assign Zorin on my primary SSD, with my Documents, Music etc on the second SSD and Games on the third SSD. Is there any recommended way I should go about this with regard to file systems and partition names? Maybe there is an existing guide I could refer to.

yeah for a zorin-only box id keep the installer simple on the first ssd (efi + ext4 root), then after first boot mount the other two and point Documents/Music/Games there with the disks app or fstab. no fancy partition scheme needed, just label them something like data and games so they stay recognizable. if you want the home folders redirected, do that after the mounts are solid (xdg user-dirs or symlinks).

Welcome to the Forum!

You would have a couple Options here. I would suggest the following way:

  1. When Windows is still installed, start the Zorin Bootstivk in Live Mode, look there for ''GParted'' and delete every Windows Partition.
  2. When install Zorin after this, choose the ''Something else'' Option.
  3. For the Partitions:
  • Create on Your primary SSD and EFI-Partition with 300mb and format it to FAT32 and then the Rest of the Drive with the Mount Point / and format it to ext4.
  • Create on Your 2nd SSD the Mount Point /home and format it to ext4. So, You have a seperate home Parition on this 2nd Drive with the Documents, Music, Videos etc. Folders.
  • The 3rd Drive, You can use later for Games. that, You can format in ext4 but don't need a Mount Point. After the Installation, You can open ''Disks'', choose this Drive and active ''Auto Mount'' if it shouldn't be already activated.

Im sure someone here will be able to explain the right way to do it, and worth waiting for. I did a zorin install along side windows 10 so i could gradually swap over. What i got was zonin installer creating partitions on the drive that somehow dropped it right in the middle data and windows files. Right now windows runs like half broken with a lot of folders generating "not found " errors, a zorin 18 that worked for 2 days before loosing internet.
So best to get good help and advise here as i have found i was more than capable of completly messing everything up lol.

Zorin will format the master partition on install. It will pick one for you. It did for me. The other two drives you have will need to be manually formatted to Linux format. It will take a good amount of time for both drives.

By my knowledge only if you choose the default installation.

This should open the "advanced" installation and one is allowed to select the partition on which Linux will be installed.
As lately, I did a bit of Distro-hopping, this always worked for "POP_OS" and "CachyOS" it provided the option to choose the /root partition

Well zorin and some others changed the way linux gets installed to make it "somewhat" easier to install..if installing it the basic way. this was due to win 10 coming to EOL and folks not wanting to toss out a perfictly good computer

There are folks on here who can help you get the partition made correctly to work with zorin
