Hi
New here but not new to Linux
I've downloaded Zorin US (17.x and 18) and tried to boot on the USB drive.
I want to install it on a laptop, old laptop as HP 6530b, already running Linux Mint last version.
USB created with Linux Mint "Creating a boot USB drive"
But, installation locks on a [watchdog: BUG: soft lockup - CPU#1 (or 2) for x seconds (more than 200 for example).
How can I surpass this error and achieve, at least, a Live boot?
Thanks
You said that the installation locks, but you're also asking about using the live media. Normally, you have both these options alongside each other as soon as you boot from the USB. So just to clarify, are you able to boot at all?
So, the USB Stick doesn't start or the Installation doesn't work? Are Secure Boot and Fast Boot in BIOS disabled? If Windows is still installed: Is Fast Start-Up in Windows disabled?
Hi
Thanks for your answers.
USB stick doesn't start, it locks with Watchdog etc.
I can't boot at all (and I have no problem with Mint and some other linux live USB)
There are so many things that can cause this...
You may need to run a MEMTEST to see if RAM is the culprit. CPU Load test, to see if it really is the CPU.
If your settings have Intel Pstate, disabling it in case an ACPI error is causing this issue may work.
Can I respectfully suggest that you try a different USB creation tool? I find Ventoy to be the best usb installer by far. You download the Ventoy creation tool, it looks for the USB and installs it to the USB. You can then simply drag and drop .iso's onto the USB then once done boot off of it.
