Laptop: Dell 7400 2 in 1 with an 13th gen i5 (touch laptop)
Version: Zorin 18
Device: Dell Active Pen.
Description of the problem: I have been using zorin 17.3 for little more than a year and everything worked fine with some exceptions, I couldn't wait to migrate once zorin 18 was released so I started from scratch a new installation that was overall fine but with an annoying issue: The pen is working very poorly on full-screen mode and sometimes also in windowed mode.
The expected behavior is that the mouse pointer would appear on the screen after I get the pen's tip close, and it does but then it often disappears after clicking or moving the pen away from the screen and putting it close again. I noticed this issue is way more common on full-screen but it's not limited to it and also, the screen becomes completely irresponsible to the pen once the pointer disappears.
I have tried switching from wayland to Xorg, but xorgs sems way more buggy and laggy when it comes to work with touch screens, this specific issue seems to improve on Xorg but the screen becomes almost unusable overall due to constant bugs when trying to use the touchscreen.
Graphics card: (Integrated) Intel® UHD Graphics 620 (WHL GT2)
Resolution: 1920 x 1080 16:9
Refresh rate: 60hz
Fractional Scaling is disabled but enabling it doesn't make a difference tbh.
Updates: Well I finally managed to solve my problem... Creating another problem in the process.
With the help of this silly extension I forced my pointer to not disappear when using my pen, but now I can't drag and drop any windows no matter what and the pointer continues on screen even when I'm using my fingers to touch it.
Second update: I was on Xorg, after switching to wayland the pen is the one who doesn't work again.
I have a similar thing on a MS Surface Go which I recently converted to Zorin 18. The pen is fine in any notes / drawing app unless the app is full screen, when the pen no longer seems to be recognised. Thanks for any suggestions!
I have an HP Pavilion with a touchscreen and use the original stylus.
I am using the latest Zorin Core 18.
The stylus only works briefly via Wayland, then the cursor disappears and it is no longer possible to enter anything with the stylus.
When I switch to Xorg via the login (gear icon), the stylus works for drawing, but I also use the touchscreen for scrolling, etc., and that is totally impractical because Firefox only selects and the strange on-screen keyboard keeps popping up.
No solution on my end, just an additional note on behavior. When I go to the wacom tablet settings and scroll down to the general pen area, there is a pen graphic that lights up, showing that the device recognizes my pen (Renaisser Raphael 510). When I touch the pen to the desktop and drag a selection box, it ceases recognizing the pen (the mouse pointer goes away, no input from pen seems to be recognized). When I hover back over the general pen area of the wacom tablet settings, it recognizes the pen again. Oddly enough, the pen works in a note taking app so long as it is not fullscreen (Rnote installed via flatpak, version 0.13.1). My device is a surface pro 7 with linux surface kernel 6.17.1
You could try if it makes a difference when you use Wayland or Xorg. To switch logout and at login click on your username then a cog wheal appears at the bottom right corner. There select "Zorin Desktop on XOrg".
The behavior is more broken on xorg. It works temporarily as expected, but then the entire touch input fails, not just for the pen but for any input. The only solution is logging out and back in (even trying to restart xinput or iptsd doesn't fix it).
I should mention that when I hover over the "general pen" graphic in the wacom tablet settings menu, this seems to fully reset input until it breaks again. Clicking anything on the desktop with the pen, or trying to use a fullscreen app, causes the pen input to not be recognized again. If I then hover over that graphic, it recognizes the pen input again, until I try to use it on the desktop or fullscreen app. I can repeat this as many times as I want.
I considered trying to make a hacky solution that somehow emulates whatever is happening in the wacom tablet settings window in other apps, but I am brand new at linux, let alone zorin OS or touchscreen utilities for linux. It'll take me some time to figure out exactly what I need to change/modify/make to get such behavior working.
I'm using an XP Pen 22 Pro Gen 2 and it has exactly the same problem: it doesn't work properly with full-screen applications. I was looking for a solution, but it seems that it just doesn't work. I'll download the drivers from the tablet's website and see if that fixes it.
