It looks like you have installed both 525 and 555 already. I'd be hesitant to remove the 555 driver as it might be in use by something else at the moment. I think I'll step back here and let someone else take over this one... Nvidia has truly outdone itself (again )
Yes, you can. Synaptic can send the apt mark-hold
command for you.
Select a package, then in the menubar, select Package
and in the menu, check the box for lock version
.
Which version i need to lock ? The installed ones or the updates ? Do i have to select all the packages 1 by 1 ? Is there an easier way ?
This is a clean install, didnt install anything else. This is how Pop installed it
The installed -yes.
This is the easier way. If by 1 by 1, you mean packages in general, yes.
You only need to lock one version of the 560 for all relevant Nvidia-driver-560 packages to also end up locked. It would be one selection, ultimately.
Because once you lock the primary driver in place, the dependencies are not satisfied for peripheral packages associated with the primary.
Will come back to this tomorrow . I already used the apt-hold command but the pop shop still show those updates.
Same result btw when i lock the 555 driver in synaptics
The upgradable packages can be shown - but not applied by using the sudo apt full-upgrade
, sudo apt dist-upgrade
.
However, the sudo apt install nvidia-driver-560
command would install the upgrade, overriding the hold
status.
I am not sure which command the Pop Store would implement in its programming of that GUI app.
Even if they are marked in synaptic?
Lutris i installed from the github and did mark hold the update because the pop shop wants to downgrade it. That one works. For nvidia itβs not
I believe so, yes. I remain unsure of how the POP Store manages packages.
Hmmm maybe i should disable the driver updates option then.
Alpha 2 is out with Cosmic DE.
I am going to wait for the full release :). Pop OS 22.04 with nvidia drivers 555.58.02 is rock solid here.
I installed it using the Source Code. I notice that it requires and relies on Gnome and Gnome extensions.
If it is reliant on Gnome as a dependency - I do not see how it could replace Gnome.
Maybe this is only temporary until it is finished.
There's still some gnome stuff/dependencies that need to be sort out, but it's only matter of time.
Probably so they know what they still have to write in rust. I highly doubt they will use cosmic with gnome stuff.
Tried to hold them, the terminal does not upgrade it but the pop shop keeps saying there are updates available. I dont do pop shop updates so i really dont care. My notebook stays on 555.xxx
Today i used synaptic on the acer unit and downgraded to 550, it seems 555.xxx was a NFB driver. This is probably why pop os removed 555 and replaced it for 560 which is also NFB.
550 driver (Recommended/Certified) (stable)
560 (New Feature Branch Driver) (stable/unstable)
The Acer Predator G9-793-71SJ still has the same issue i had back in Q1-2023. The whole week it boots up just fine and once in a while the screen becomes black after the predator logo during boot. Nothing works, so i have to force shut down it (which i hate to do). I probably will try fedora on this unit or endeavour os to see what happens (to check if it is not a ubuntu bug).
