Printer Hardware: Fuji Xerox DocuPrint CP305d

  • Connection Pathway: Network Connected (Static IP: 192.168.0.23 over Port 9100 JetDirect/AppSocket)
  • Core Issue: The standard Printers application experience freezes the desktop interface (system-config-printer becomes unresponsive). While a standard system test page prints successfully in color, printing multi-page documents from applications like LibreOffice experiences a massive data-rendering bottleneck, taking between 2 to 5 minutes to process a standard 3-page color duplex document.
  • Troubleshooting Already Done: The automated network discovery background service (cups-browsed) has been fully uninstalled to prevent the automatic creation of incorrect duplicate queues.

Because You can print the Printer is detected by the System, right? Did You checked the Manufacturer's Website if there is a Linux Driver offered?

I'll look into it,
I thought cos the printer is quite a few years old it would have one in the printers db there's a few but can't get all the options like Colour and Duplex

Depending on how exactly the Printer works and what the Manufacturer has set up, a seperate Driver might be needed to get full Functionality. At least looking it is available is worth a Look. If there isn't one, we have to see what to do otherwise.

I've looked on the Xerox drivers download but is no longer supported and no other drivers available. We have tried various drivers via the Printers App best results is with the generic PCL6 the test page results are great terrific deep colours can do duplex as well unfortunately the problem is the time it takes to print a 3 page doc in Libre office 2-5 minutes, similar results with choosing other drivers.
Is there a standard recommended procedure to try to fix the issue I don't want to scrap the printer cos it's still in good condition and have plenty of ink cartridges thanks in advance

Hi, I also hit a wall at fuji website while looking for you, saying it is end of life.

You could try this generic driver but your printer isn't listed:

https://ubuntu.pkgs.org/24.04/ubuntu-universe-amd64/printer-driver-fujixerox_1.1.0+ds-4build2_amd64.deb.html

Another approach, no guarantees. When I started to use GNU/Linux we owned a Canon i-865 and there was no current driver for the Linux kernel at the time. I thought 'outside the box' by looking at my ink cartridge box to see what other printers were supported. The nearest model was a BJC-8800. So I looked for those drivers in setting up for Canon Printers within Add Printer, and lo and behold, a Linux driver was present and success! I could then print to the i-865.

Hi Swarfendor 437,
"Thanks for the tip. Your outside-the-box logic worked perfectly.

The printer-driver-fujixerox package was already installed on my system. I went into my existing printer settings and changed the driver to the recommended Fuji Xerox DocuPrint CM305 df Foomatic/PostScript profile.

Even though my exact printer is the CP305 d, it shares the same print engine as the CM305 df. The test print came out in high-quality colour, and duplex printing works perfectly too. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!"
At the time we were changing the driver Software updates happened as well and these were the updates -------------
