Prior Linux OS encrypted Disk

Prior to my install of zorin OS i had a encrypted disk (with login) prior to logging into main screen. I was using the latest mint 20.3 version. I want to fully remove encrypted disk to allow use of this distro and others down the line and avoid this issue in future.

I wanted a full blown install of zorin on my laptop so during installation choose not to do a partition. Upon completing the installation I got the notification of "DISK IS LIKELY TO FAIL SOON". I attached screenshots below

I do have gparted installed was crossing my fingers I could use this to help fix this problem.

I am hoping there is something I can do crossing my fingers. Willing do another install. Hoping I can bypass and if needed but rather not partition and have zorin just fully mounted on sd2. I been searching but haven't had any luck :crossed_fingers: :pensive:

Also on side note: I have tried many distros and this so far has the best of both worlds beautiful UI and ubuntu features I am use too. Hoping to correctly fix this as I'd like to install this on my home desktop only thing holding me back is the actual install as I had to boot thru efi which I am not sure if that is normal way as other distros when using mounted usb prompt without having to go the efi route.

if there is a place to post my experience using this (besides my issue) would love to share it. Even tho core offers what I need I want to support this project by going pro. Curious how long it will be for zorin to use ubuntu 22.04 when its released in April.

Possible solution?

src: here

" Yes, it's 100% possible.

Just select "Erase disk and install Ubuntu" in the installer. That's it! The installer will automatically format the disk, overwriting the previously encrypted filesystem"

curious why this didn't work when I did install though for zorin install?

UPDATE: it did not work but good news it recognized zorin OS as it didn't pick up old OS in previous install

So do you still have Mint installed with Encryption? The fact that you are getting an imminent fail, I would advise you seek a replacement but not a Hitachi one - their DeskStar models were colloquially coined "DeatStar!" LOL!

Came to the conclusion it is infact the hard drive lol laptop itself is 8 years old. Would it be worth just replace HD vs getting a new one? Worried rest of hardware gonna bite the dust lol

Actually unlocked HD and it erased prior partition and was able to remove mint. Was able to access it in the "try option", did several suggested troubleshooting but HD is failing. In the efi selected boot last install think prior install I didn't. Several options that folder to load install. Wanna know the differences and gonna try looking it up later.

Since first time I bought it it constantly would over heat basically have a 45 window before fan kicks in.

Answered my own question lol but would love to keep this badboy (laptop).

Have laptops and desktops older than that still roll right along. <if you still enjoy the thing its worth the money to get another drive. I would get at least a 7200...but SSD would be great

Hard Drives are no longer so costly. I would get a new hard drive. If the rest of the notebook fails- then you have a spare hard drive you can use elsewhere.
