Problem with screen sharing on Discord in Firefox browser

The other day I was on a call on Discord when I came across something different when I was going to share my screen. Normally, I can choose the screen I want to share directly from this popup, but this time there was only one option.

But anyway, I clicked on it and it took me to this popup that appears to be integrated into the operating system.

The curious thing is that the other participants could see my transmission, but it was static, if I moved the screen they couldn't see it.
Why is it like this?

Are you running Wayland desktop? You can check in the "About" section of the settings screen. If you are, discord does not have a good time with screen share (that is, sometimes it won't work). However, if this is through Firefox, it may be another issue, but i'm betting on the wayland issue.

You can change it from the login screen, cog in the bottom right, then select "Zorin Desktop on Xorg". And see if that solves the issue.

I personally use a different client that works with Wayland to get that functionality working properly, but that's a whole other bag of worms that I won't get into yet lol.

Could it be a flatpak issue?

That UI isn't strictly a Wayland issue. I'm definitely on X11 and get the same prompt when trying to select a capture target in OBS when using Screen Capture (Pipewire).

Can't speak for the OP, but my version of OBS is using the flatpak.

I believe this is the UI that the OP is expecting:

Note that with Discord, I'm not using the flatpak. @AntonioAgnolin, you might want to try removing your Discord installation if you installed it from the software app in Zorin. That installs the flatpak, and flatpaks come with some restrictions for security that can also cause headaches. Instead, go to Discord's own website (www.discord.com), and you can download their Linux native version as a .deb file. Running that will install Discord for you. The downside is that their .deb doesn't have a repo (this means no automatic updates when you run software updater), but it DOES stop you when you run it, tell you there's a new version, and link you to it, so it's easy to update by hand.

Sorry, I wasn't trying to say the prompt is strictly Wayland. Just that the issues they seem to be having I have had in the past, were strictly due to Wayland and Discord issues. I just don't use the Discord client because it also has other smaller issues, but I also just try to avoid it anyway.

Entirely fair—if the user's on Wayland and doesn't need to be, it makes life simpler to have them switch.

I don't think it is, I'm using Discord in the Firefox browser.

This is only happening on my laptop. On the desktop, the screen sharing popup has been the same as usual:

Ok I think I understand a little better now. So when you selected an option to share your screen, did you select the entire screen? Or a single window (in your image, you can select either). Or was the entire screen the only option you had?

Sometimes selecting entire screen can cause issues with windows sometimes, and when you're using the window the video stream will pause, then activate again when you're not selecting that window.

On the desktop, are you running the same version of Firefox, either flatpak or deb? And is it also the same zorin version?

My apologies, I was answering from the desktop and ended up confusing devices. My desktop is on the X11 windowing system, which is probably why it shows the common transmission popup. Meanwhile, my notebook is on Wayland.

I'll try switching to Xorg and see how it goes.
