I've returned once more
For a long time, and was hoping to use it here on Zorin. I downloaded Wine and the installer, but whenever I run it, it just instantly freezes and doesn't do anything.I tried several different kinds of34eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep---------------------------------------*********************************************
Sorry, my cat stepped on my keyboard and I thought it was funny so I'm keeping it. Anyways, I've tried several different kinds of installers, like Bottle, to get it working, to no avail. I searched here for any previous forums, and I could only find one and it doesn't work. I'm hoping it's not a lost cause
Any help is appreciated. I hope to not be doomed to online CapCut for eternity.

I like the cat situation. Makes things a bit more fun in a day.
As for capcut, i've never heard of it or tried it, but I can try seeing what I can get going later today after work. Although, if there's nothing officially supported, is there a specific reason you wouldn't want to try switch to say something like a Kdenlive or even a Davinci Resolve?
Something you could try, and I'm not sure if you've tried this so far, is sometimes installing through something like a Lutris can help a more intensive program like this work, because they tend to default to including a lot more dependencies in their wine versions due to video games typically needing a ton.
The reason is because I'm already very well-versed in CapCut, and I've used them for a very long time. I know I could learn Resolve, but as I edit videos for a living...
I've gone ahead and tried Lutris to no avail. The installer just freezes.
I think what's happening is it's trying to basically "run as administrator" or asking for permission through UAC but the prompt won't show up. This used to be an issue a few years back, but I thought it was fixed now. I will take a look later and see if I can recall the workaround I usually put in.
EDIT: This is a pain, but one workaround is have a Windows install in a VM (whatever VM manager you like), install the program there, then copy the files over into whatever location you want and then it should run. This is one way I used to do it before delving deeper into the issue. Of course a negative to this is every time you may try to update it, it would fail, meaning you'd have to update the version in windows then copy over again.
I attempted to do cd to the downloads folder, then sudo wine capcut.exe to no results. Darn.
I appreciate the help. I'll see if I can get a VM running, but it's been tricky on here. Boxes didn't work at all, and VirtualBox has been struggling, too.
Just a quick aside, you should not run wine with sudo. Just leads to giving the windows programs complete access, and we do NOT want that.

I took a look at how that program installs, it sends files into AppData on windows instead of Programs (you know, like normal programs do) and sends configs in many other places that aren't typical. I would say at this point you're stuck in a browser with this application. Maybe the developers could learn how normal applications function by default? But until then, I think it's more hastle than it's worth
Every day we inch closer to death
Thank you anyways <3

It looks like @applecheeks37 hit the nail on the head:
There are a variety of issues in using Capcut with any compatibility layer. You will not good good results using Proton, POL or Bottles.
You can use the aforementioned browser based application or look into native GnuLinux apps. It's not as daunting as it seems.
When I first switched from Windows to GnuLinux, I held on to my favored Windows apps, mostly because I knew all their buttons. It took a while for me to give native apps a chance. And when I did, there was no going back. They often work better than the Windows Apps on Windows OS did.
Not always. But often.
Shotcut may be worth trying and Kdenlive has strong good reviews. I do not recommend DaVinci Resolve as many people have a lot of trouble with it.
