PS5 controller disabled by recent update

I found a topic here in forum tryna troubleshoot the Bluetooth functionality but that's not my issue as I always play my games with a controller wired by USB. In the recent-ish string of updates my PC did my PS5 controller no longer works with games on Steam. I have tried disabling/enabling Steam input and that has no affect. I can use a DS4 controller with no issue. In the case of the PS5 controller Steam recognizes I've plugged it in but nothing in games. The OS recognizes it as I can use it as a microphone and speaker if I wanted to, I can even navigate the Steam UI with it. Just nothing in games. It worked as expected about a month ago.

Try removing 'brltty' and installing 'libusb-dev':

sudo apt purge brltty
sudo apt autoremove
sudo apt install libusb-dev

Though.. that might only work through USB..

Unfortunately didn't work. Pretty much same result. I don't mind using USB to play or anything.

Plugged in, controller responds. Rumbles. Everything. Doesn't work in games.

Dual shock 4 and xbox controllers still work as expected.

Well.. I don't have a PS5 or one of the controllers to test this out, sadly..

Please make sure that you have enabled controller support in Steam...

You might try resetting the PS5 controller. I've had to do that a few times. Look at the back/bottom of it. Under the legal text and to the right of the Sony logotype you'll see a pinhole. You can use a straight pin or a SIM card ejection tool from a smartphone to poke the reset button in there. I can't recall if I did this while it was connected to the USB cable or disconnected, but I have had it get the job done.

Went and made sure. It is enabled. Detected and enabled. I can even test the inputs in steam and it works. I tried both enabled in games w/o support and just enabled. neither changed.

Gave this a shot too, first while unplugged then plugged in. Still nothing. I appreciate the idea though.

Not for nothing the same OS update from a while back that knocked this controller out also made it so Helldivers 2 would freeze up over and over and I ended up changing some graphics settings and it stopped. Obviously I'm sure it's unrelated but it is an interesting coincidence that the same system updates thingy I did hit both things.
