Q: Open with Install Windows Application fails with "install interrupted"

I'm trying out Zorin 16 Core x64.
I want to install some windows apps (specifically office and acrobat pro), and as per the documentation, amusing the "Open with Install Windows Application" procedure.

Everything proceeds as expected, until the installer reaches the end and produces an error "Setup Interrupted," after which the install fails.

I receive a similar error for both a MS Office 2010 Plus x65 bit install and an Acrobat Pro 32bit install.

Syslog has a bunch of install errors, (it's wine, so that's to be expected), but the critical ones seems to be:

Sep 22 18:52:19 Shodan org.gnome.Nautilus[13721]: 01ca:err:winediag:SECUR32_initNTLMSP ntlm_auth was not found or is outdated. Make sure that ntlm_auth >= 3.0.25 is in your path. Usually, you can find it in the winbind package of your distribution.

Sep 22 18:45:29 Shodan org.gnome.Nautilus[2115]: message repeated 43 times: [ 0032:err:mscoree:LoadLibraryShim error reading registry key for installroot]

Can anyone shed some light on these errors logged by wine?

Thanks in advance,
John N.

Can you try

sudo apt install --reinstall winbind && sudo apt install zorin-windows-app-support

Thanks, I reinstalled winbind and the zorin package as suggested, but the office installer still produces the error "encountered an error during setup."

I interpret this as the Office installer failing to write registry keys to wine's registry.

Ideas?

Thanks in advance.

It almost looks as though you were running Wine from Root.
How are you installing Office? What steps did you take, one at a time?

  1. Insert USB Install media
  2. Open "Files" and click on USB media
  3. Right click on "setup.exe" and select "Open with Install Windows Installation"
  4. Agree to security warning and run program anyway.
  5. Office Install wizard starts. Pasted in product key
  6. Accept all license agreements, click next a lot :-/ Used defaults for everything.
  7. tail log (captured below)

  1. Install wizard ends with "Microsoft Office Professional encountered an error during setup"

  2. At no point do I su to root or run sudo. I am using the default wine that comes with zorin.

  3. jnyhuis@Shodan:/var/log$ dpkg -l |grep wine

Looking for answers on the web, I came across this page:

It states that Office 2010 requires additional tweaking to get it to work and links to another page: That is a Dead Link.
