Question about Wayland

When I first installed ZORIN OS 18 Pro I had many problems with Brave freezing. Brave and/or LibreWolf freezing in minutes when open. Through that thread I tried many things and received a lot of help (thank you all!) from many members here.

After I got things sorted out and got it working (as detailed in the referenced thread above) I went back to Brave, enabled hardware acceleration, and switched the desktop back to Wayland. I wanted to see if certain things I had tried would bring the problem back. They have not.

I've been using Zorin for a couple of days almost non-stop (no reboots, just logging in or out). I've been installing software, making mistakes, but Zorin keeps going like the Energizer Bunny.

My question is: Since I'm experiencing no issues since I've gone back to Wayland and enabled hardware acceleration on Brave, I was wondering if it's ok to go ahead and use it going forward. If it's problematic to many people as it seems it might be (maybe not, maybe all I'm reading about are the ones with problems and the majority of users are fine with it out of the box...the old squeaky wheel gets the oil thing). What are the advantages to using Wayland over Xorg? Are there any metrics I should look for? Are there subtle differences in the graphics output, snappiness (is that even a word?), or other constraints? Since I'm new to the Linux world, I'm a bit curious.

BTW, I feel like Neo and I just got taken out of the matrix...but I can't wait until I've got my whole system running on Linux. The next big hurdle is to replace my old Windows Server 2012 R2 and machine it's running on with some kind of Linux server., but that's another system and Forum.

Thanks in advance for any opinions.

When it runs now for You with enabled Hardware Acceleration and Wayland, You can of Course use it that Way. If something should happen, You know now that You can disable HA and switch to Xorg.

This is something ... Let me say it that Way: Use what works for You. Wayland is made for - at least this is the Intention of it - for more modern Hardware Support. The Thing is that it still can cause Issues because it is on some Things not finished. The Experience depends on Your used Hardware and the Wayland Implementation in the Desktop Version. On an up-to-date Desktop, You can have a better Experience but You don't have to.

X11/Xorg is older, way older but more reliable. Here on Zorin it works better in combination with Nvidia Graphics. So, You will might see that People here (incliding) myself) will suggest/recommend using Xorg by using a Nvidia card.

So, at the End it depends on Your System. When Wayland works, use it. When Xorg works (better), use that.

It does not only depend on systems. People with accessibility requirements cannot use Wayland. Additionally, I donct know if other issues have been resolved but in Wayland you can't video conference and you can't capture desktop video recordings (screencast). I also abhor Gnome for branding users who are print-disabled as "concerned trolls".
