[Question] VirtualBox's Shared folder, clipboard and Drag-n-Drop features not available in Zorin OS v17.3

Microsoft Windows 11 Version 22H2 (OS Build 22621.5189)
VirtualBox Version 7.1.6 r167084 (Qt6.5.3)
Zorin OS v17.3 Core

Hi, I am new user of Zorin OS, installed with Windows VirtualBox and shared a folder named SANDBOX below.

Later, when try to access the shared folder via Zorin OS, I received error below.

Meanwhile, the shared clipboard and Drag-n-Drop features also not available in Zorin OS.

All these are so important for developer to test and develop applications in Zorin OS.

Please advise.

Microsoft Windows 11 Version 22H2 (OS Build 22621.5189)
VirtualBox Version 7.1.6 r167084 (Qt6.5.3)
Zorin OS v17.3 Core

hi, I am new to Zorin OS, just installed v17.3 a day ago under VirtualBox to test and experience this OS, it is clean and manage to install the VirtualBox Addons on it.

However, as a developer normally we test OSes under VirtualBox, the common features such as shared folder, clipboard and drap-n-drop are essential in the software development process but sadly, Zorin OS v17.3 seems does not respond to all these essential features.

I have documented the entire process in the video link below,

Hopes, this can improve the user experience of Zorin OS.

Thank you.

Two threads on same topic merged - while one was posted in Feedback, this primarily is a Helpdesk troubleshooting issue.
VirtualBox is an independent project, not maintained or developed by the ZorinGroup; therefor feedback is not applicable here, but rather to the Virtualbox developer.

For this thread, we can proceed with troubleshooting.

Try switching the session from Wayland to Xorg. You have to log out of your account first, and then use the wheel icon on the lower right corner:

If this doesn't make any difference it might just be an issue with permissions. Try running this in a terminal and share the output:

lsblk

Thanks, I tried your suggestions but result still the same.

The lsblk result:

Thanks for the feedback, I already submitted to VirtualBox forum HERE for references.

According to the output of the lsblk command, there's nothing more than the drive where Zorin OS is installed.

I haven't used VirtualBox in years; I don't remember if you were supposed to enable file sharing somewhere. For reference, with KVM you need to make the drive available to the guest first, and the mount it.

But everything else works fine i.e., clipboard, file sharing, and sharing files once the mounting is done. Although I just noticed that drag & drop seems to work as some sort of download, or at least it opens the Downloads folder and drops the file there for some reason

In any case, I would wait for a reply form Virtual Box on this.

Thanks for the feedback, it does copy-n-paste the text content from clipboard versi versa but not physical copy-n-paste file.

Just found the solution to access VirtualBox shared folder as described below:

I also tested the latest version of Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS where initially it behaved the same as Zorin OS v17.3 where the VirtualBox's shared folder is prohibited due to permission problem as well as the drag-n-drop and copy-n-paste file are not feasible.

Now, left only the drag-n-drop and copy-n-paste file features not available in VirtualBox client which I will just wait for the feedback from VirtualBox forum at the URL below:

Oh, you're right. I can't copy files entirely, just text. Although the drag & drop works fine for me. I'll have to try with other images to see if it's something specific or more generalized
