For anyone getting random full system freezes or crashes with Brave on AMD graphics (seen on Ryzen AI 9 / Radeon 880M-890M "Strix Point", and reports suggest older Vega 8 iGPUs too): you're not alone, and it's not really Brave's fault specifically.
There's a known bug deep in the AMD GPU driver (amdgpu/TTM memory manager) where, under certain conditions, a piece of memory the driver is tracking gets reused while still being referenced. When that happens, the kernel can panic, and because it happens while holding a lock, it often drags down every other GPU client on the machine with it: browser, compositor, sometimes the whole desktop. Hard reset required, no warning.
Brave triggers this more often simply because it's a heavy GPU consumer (Chromium's GPU process does a lot of submissions), so statistically it's the one that gets blamed. But there are confirmed reports of the exact same crash triggered by completely unrelated apps on AMD hardware, so this looks like a driver-level issue affecting AMD graphics more broadly, not something Brave is doing wrong on purpose.
What I can say from my own experience: switching to Firefox made the problem disappear completely for me, on the same machine, same kernel, same GPU. I can't guarantee it'll be the same for everyone, but if you're getting these crashes with Brave (or Chrome, or any Chromium browser) on AMD graphics, trying Firefox is a cheap, easy first thing to test.
This is still an open kernel-level bug as of the latest stable kernels, so there's no real "fix" to apply yet other than avoiding whatever triggers it on your system.
