Recovery Key missing. Instructions are a bit confusing

First of all thanks in advance for reading and helping out. My goal at the moment is to transition from Windows to Linux, which has been a pretty exasperating experience for me. Tried CachyOS before and bricked my system once and cant figure out the terminal and cant figure out how to get a fan controller and zoom to work without nuking everything through the terminal. Its like giving a nuke to a toddler (in my case).

Anyways I hope to find a new home in ZorinOS, lets see.

So I managed to install ZorinOS propperly on the 4th try. The first 2 ended in a bootloop, that is hopefully fixed. However now I have another issue I cant solve myself:

I encrypted the single SSD in my laptop and configured a recovery key. The installer tells me that it is supposed to be in home/zorin/recovery.key. However i cannot find the folder, nor the file. The installer also tells me upon installation, that the key is stored until the first reboot. And after installation the computer needs to reboot, so im wondering if that already deleted the key? There is no interface or anything for me to interact with, just the box telling me to restart.

What am I missing? I read other threads and they talk about a live environment and saving it to another drive but I dont see how that is helpful to me. Also im not sure what a live environment is. I chose "try or install Zorin" in the beginning and then selected install Zorin. Am I supposed to click on "try out Zorin" first, and then install it in order to have the key? Surely that is not what the delevopers intended?

Im thankful for any help. Im not really keen on installing Zorin again, but in order to get a recovery key ill do it. Im just not looking forward to another 4 runs to get it to work properly.

Cheers
