Hello all.
I still don't forget about you all.
I bought a old laptop and will waiting for Zorin 18 xfce
Happy New Year in 2026 to everyone on the Zorin forum!
Thank you for being such a great community for sharing ideas and experiences.
Wishing you health, success, positive energy, and many great discussions in the year ahead — both online and offline.
Happy New Year to you, Bourne!
I started with Windows 3.1 and then Windows for Workstations v3.11 (which worked a lot better and came with an Internet Socket! Those were exciting days. The thrill of Windows since has left me now that it's becoming more and more like Android with apps, spyware, bloatware and intrusive advertising. I have now found that joy in Linux and even tho I've had to reinstall it a million times because I broke something, I love being goal oriented and focused on solving a problem once again. Once a techie, always a techie ![]()
Pleased to meet you @Bourne and Zorin users. It's a fantastic distribution! I wanted to like Pop! so badly. haha. no. i do, and i dig COSMIC. Zorin OS just seems to be a bit more my speed. options for experimenting is great, as well as confidence in knowing it works. this is more a knowing it works vibe.
nice.
It's gonna be a good year!
I did notice that you have been gone for a long time, you used to make posts more often. I just figured you were busy doing other things or trying different distro's. One of our members Michael did that, he went to a different distro, and decided not to help with Zorin OS anymore, sad.
Anyways, good that your still a Linux user. Yep, I think a lot of people are waiting for Zorin OS Lite as well. When it releases enjoy it, cause the team reported that its going to be the last iteration of Lite. But as I am sure you know, anyone can just install another DE, and just switch to that. I'm honestly amazed that even works!
Happy new year, only 2hrs away now, here in New Zealand.
I installed xfce onto Zorin 18 shortly after I switched here from Windows and if I can do it then anyone can. I liked the Gnome DE but I am a minimalist at heart and so I thought I would try it and I like it very much. I followed a few videos on making it look a bit more modern and have been able to work out what I wanted and then make it happen.
I think you are 8 hours ahead of us here in the US. What's it like in the future?
Not sure I want to be in the future - I'd be more content in the past at my age.
I guess that would need some reverse engineering ![]()
Well if a Medium contributor is correct, then time travel is a possibility! At least we can time travel in our memories! ![]()

The linux world is that big and trying find simple answear how that all works.
Now watching this movie https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-1-OjxPJZcs
I am always somewhere in the news with linux and operating system distributions.
That's most of what I find endlessly entertaining. Learning new stuff, trying things out, see what works.. doesn't work? Make it work.
Well, the 2tb drive arrived. Stripped out the GPU and vertical riser, swapped the ssd with windows on to slot 3, installed new drive in slot 1.
Installed Zorin 18, using Manual to make sure it all landed on the new drive. Grub seems happy to boot from it without any issues, both Zorin and Windows.
Installed Flathub Steam, because I really can't be arsed figuring out what causes the .DEB version from Steam to only be launchable via terminal .
Installed Password Manager (1Password) and Email (Tutanota) that latter had an issue with the keyring, but fixed that.
Installed SWTOR and FFXIV with XLCore (Launcher) both run OK, I'll do some FPS testing tomorrow.
Oh, and upgraded to Pro.
All in all, a good afternoon's work. And Full time on Zorin now.
