Removing the live boot usb @ power off

When powering off a live boot os (w/presistence) both Zorin & Cinnamon instruct you to remove the usb drive and then hit "Enter" which apparently powers off the os, but I still have to manually power on my laptop with the power button. Is it ok to leave the live boot usb drive plugged in if I intend to reboot the laptop into the live boot os? Will leaving it plugged in damage the os?

Is any other info necessary?

Thank you.

Leaving the USB stick plugged in, shouldn't damage anything. Please keep in mind however, if your using a standard USB stick that uses flash memory, they don't have long lifespans. If you intend on using live with persistence, it would be better to do so, with an external SSD/NVME drive, plugged into USB, used in LIVE boot mode instead.

Hmm ... Maybe it could damage Files. But I guess there is a Reason why You have the Screen that You should take off the USB Stick. So, if You want to be on the safe Side, I would think, that it is better to unplug it.

Thank you both for the responses. The only reason I asked this question is that on my HP laptop powering down the Zorin OS it doesn't power down the laptop. It stays powered up so I still have to manually power it down. As I don't know if there is still power at the usb port or not, I can only assume there might be power there unplugged or not! No damage that I can tell so far so why not just leave it plugged in when I power down the laptop?

Thanks for reminding me these are flash memory with limited life span. I intend to use these only as live boots for a limited time just to test some things out. At one point I'd considered dual booting but after researching that more I think I'll just now do a full Zorin os install on an external hdd play with it that way for while. I'm in no rush and it'll be good practice!

Thanks again!
