how can i rename the app name displayed on the desktop? It does not work with the Main Menu app.
for example "GNU Image Manipulation Program" to GIMP
I believe that the displayed name is the one given in the root directory /usr/share/applications - in the desktop file.
You will need to be elevated to Root to do this.
Open the (In this example) Gimp.desktop file in a Text Editor.
[Desktop Entry]
Version=1.0
Type=Application
Name=GNU Image Manipulation Program
Change to Name=GIMP
Save and exit, then reboot to test.
