When I went to download the latest version of the BIOS, my MoBo's website says "If the system is working properly, we recommend keeping the current BIOS / firmware."
... I mean, my system is not working properly, but I don't actually know that it's an issue with the BIOS.
I thought this would be a nice maintenance step (and at least give me something to do while I wait for more advice lol) but I guess I'll hold off.
Can we go back to the beginning of which I omitted. Can we have details of Make and Model of your machine?
Could You maybe posting some Pictures from Your BIOS and the Settings there? Maybe that can offer a more detailed View on the Situation.
So true lol. This has been such a long and meandering help thread that i totally didn't notice.
here's the output from sudo lshw -sanitize
- or at least as far as I can get before hitting the character limit. amazing how much more monstrous this is than the inxi command I'm used to from manjaro.

Just gone back over previous posts on this thread. When you go into the BIOS, there should be a boot order menu. If working correctly, your USB should show up twice but CSM needs to be in mixed mode for this. For example, I have a 64 Gb thumb drive with Ventoy and multiple .isos. If I boot into BIOS I get Patriot, plus Patriot EFI. If things are set to EFI only this can cause issues. As I have stated elsewhere, Windows 8 upwards, in addition to fast boot has a hidden power setting that you have to enter to turn off 'sleep mode' for the hard drive which will prevent booting off any other media. If you can run Zorin in live mode, if you run GParted (Gnome partition editor) this should identify what partitions are labelled as EFI (sometimes labelled /boot/efi or ESP - guess the latter stands for Extra Sensory Perception LOL!). If I can look at my eldest's Win11 later I will take a look.
I disabled CSM and ran the Win11 installer and it worked. I'm not sure if there's any reason to re-enable CSM at this point? Cursory research tells me since I'm only running modern OSes it's not necessary.
Only thing left to do is get grub working because it doesn't seem to have automatically detected that I installed a second OS. I'm assuming I'll be able to find the answer to that myself, but if I'm not I'll be opening a new topic as this thread has strayed far enough from the original question already.
Thanks everyone for sticking with me on this adventure.

You could try a sudo update-grub
Command in the Terminal.
Let's not forget that the majority of hardware is made for that other OS.
