Reset User password - grub

Argh...
with so many passwords at so many different forums, websites, etc.
40 pages of my little notepad (yes, paper!) is covered with way too many scribbles...
at the prompt ("john@john... (PC name) $
entered "sudo apt install ocrmypdf"
asked for password; tried "keyring" password:
no luck... 3 times - back to "sudo...."

Here's the dialogue that I found at zorin forum:

Hold left Shift or repeatedly tap Esc (while booting)

When you boot up, at the GRUB menu, go to the advanced options for Zorin and enter recovery mode. Select “Drop to root shell”. passwd username Where username is your username e.g. passwd james. Enter a new password. Press Ctrl+d to get out of the root terminal and resume the boot. You should now be able to login with your new password.
... note: "username" is "john@john....."?
(noted on next page of little notepad)

Oops...
stumbled across:
terminal,
"whoami" (without quotes)

(sorry)

I covered this issue in the Unofficial Manual that I wrote for Zorin 15 Core, pages 179-181.
