RESOLVED: Zorin 18 Docker install from scratch

RESOLVED: Solution was found Here: [Preformatted text](https://search.brave.com/search?q=Zorin+os+docker+install&summary=1&conversation=63a7714d714d411b48cbac)

Follow it step by step and it works for Zorin OS 18.

I have to install WinBoat which requires Docker and Docker Compose.
Installing Docker from the store isn't sufficient. Already tried and cannot run sudo systemctl enable docker.service to start the daemon. Uninstalled Docker from store.

Then tried manually. Total fail since packages couldn't be found.

The saw this thread: [Preformatted text](https://forum.zorin.com/t/noob-installing-docker-software-from-scratch-step-by-step/34948)

Following those instructions only lead to:

Package docker-ce is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source

Package docker-ce-cli is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source

E: Package 'docker-ce' has no installation candidate

E: Unable to locate package containerd.io
E: Couldn't find any package by glob 'containerd.io'
E: Unable to locate package docker-buildx-plugin

Any suggestions? I know enough to be dangerous and don't really want to have to reinstall, though it's not as painful as MS.

Cheers!

Glad you sorted this out. Just to confirm, you mean this thread?

For Winboat to run properly you must install Docker from the command line. I will revisit this thread in the future. I did get it running using the one I posted for the RESOLVED solution.

WinBoat turns out is NOT a good solution. I found it very slow and most the preinstalled MS bloat apps don't load for some reason. After consulting with my mother and reviewing Quicken Online it turns out she will be comfortable to run that. TurboTax will have a Browser app as well and she and I will run that instead. So Most of her must have apps are able to be run via WebApps solution. Thankfully. As for my needs? Going to be looking for Linux alternatives.

Her needs are simpler. Mine are more complex. LOL.

Anyway Thanks for answering. I am VERY pleased with my choice of Zorin OS as the best platform for switching from Windows.

I'm marking this last reply as the solution for this thread, simply because I can't mark the first one
