Has this worked on this system before? Never.
Installed latest BIOS. Toggled on and off testing Fast Boot and Secure Boot, no change.
Reset BIOS to factory defaults. Boots just fine. Hardware security checks happy.
Shutdown and manual power on works without issue.
Restart boots to no video. Hard power down to power on; Video works.
Pulled all USB devices and tested, no change.
Confirmed latest drivers, confirmed all OS updates.

Already tested GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash nomodeset" with no change.

With a bunch of the HP EliteDesk systems floating around for cheap, if Zorin 18 core works well with this hardware, I may pick up more.

Welcome to the Forum!

Is only Zorin installed?

You could try it with switching to Xorg. to do that, go to the Login Screen. click on your Profile so that the Password Field appears. When it is appeared, You should see a Gear Icon in the bottom right Corner. Click on it and choose the Option ''Zorin Desktop on Xorg'' and then log in.

Let Secure Boot, Fast Boot and TPM in BIOS disabled? Is Your BIOS in UEFI or Legacy Mode? What Tool did You use to create the bootable USB Stick with Zorin on it?

Silly yet mandatory question, but did you run sudo update-grub after you made the change to grub?

If so, because it's a 10+ year-old integrated card, I'd probably just start with trying Xorg.

To force Xorg everywhere (including the login screen!) instead of Wayland to see if your Intel card works better with it:

  • sudo nano /etc/gdm3/custom.conf
to uncomment [remove # from] this line:
    • #WaylandEnable=false
    • Save the file, reboot.

I had some personal issues come up and got distracted, but I did do an update on the OS, and everything is working as it should. I didn't change anything other than do the standard update.

FYI - I didn't want this to hang without some response.

I'm so happy with the results that I've been helping people with their Tiny/Mini/Micro and purchased another system for myself with Zorin OS.
