I have had issues with my screen for some weeks now. When I carry my laptop (Starbook), it sometimes happens the screen freezes and I have to restart the computer. Any idea what might cause this issue? It is very annoying, as I sometimes have to go to another room for a video call.
Are you carrying it open or do you close the lid?
What graphics card do you have?
Are you using Wayland or X11 windowing?
You could try running Caffeine to keep session running.
An alternative to Caffeine would be Espresso. See: Zorin 17 and Caffeine - #9 by Omnimaxus
Thanks for your reply.
- I keep the lid open.
- Graphics card: Intel Corporation Device a7a0
- Wayland
Any further ideas?
You could try it with changing from Wayland to Xorg. To do that go to the Login Screen and click on Your Profile Picture so that the Password Field appears. It is important that it appears. When it is appeared, You should see in the bottom right Corner a Gear Icon. Click on it and choose the Option ''Zorin Desktop on Xorg'' and then log in and test it.
Thank you so much! It seems to work now.
Why is it more stable on Xorg? What's the difference? Sorry, I am new to Linux and these things overwhelm me a bit.
There are lots of examples where users are failed by Wayland and resort to the oldie but goodie X11 windowing, that until Z17 was the default of the two. This may be worth a read if you are interested: The Trouble with Wayland

That is a big Topic. Wayland and Xorg are Display Protocols. Xorg is an older one but moe reliable. Wayland is a newer one but have some Issues here and there. There is Progress, but it takes some Time to make it better. That is the short Version of that Topic.
