Sea of Thieves won't launch from steam, but will from Zorin's Windows App Support

Hi, I recently bought and installed Sea of Thieves on Steam.
Unfortunately the game gets stuck at the launching stage indefinitely. I tried Proton8.03, Proton Experimental and Proton GE8-16, all with no success. I also verified the integrity of the game files, cleared the shader cache and download cache and had no success. Sea of Thieves is Steam Deck Verified and has a gold rating on ProtonDB, and none of the tweaks listed there do anything.

But, when i navigated to the game's directory I was able to launch the game with Zorin's windows app support, and it works, however the game requires it to be launched through steam to connect to the servers.
So, if anyone has any advice as to how to fix this it would be greatly appreciated.

I don't game at all except for the occasional foray into C&C Yuri's Revenge... but could you launch Steam from within Zorin's Windows App Support, then launch Sea of Thieves on Steam?

I've got steam play enabled for all titles

When you say removing GE, do you mean uninstalling it using ProtonUp? Or just running the game without it?

I think this has made some progress. Now it gets to playing within seconds, however nothing loads. Looking at the system monitor I can't find any evidence that the game is running at all

Ok I've tried that and now the game crashes a few seconds after hitting play. I tried the launch command PROTON_LOG=1 %COMMAND% and got this log.

Try the below solution

"This seems to be a problem with the latest versions of Proton from 7.0-4 and Experimental. The solution to this is to force the game to run under an older version of Proton, such as 6.3-8., On the game page, click the settings icon (cog icon on the right, beside the controller icon).

• Go to Properties, then Compatibility. Select "Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool" and from the dropdown menu select Proton 6.3-8. I believe this is the latest known stable version."*

Sea of Thieves on Steam Deck is surprisingly good (Impressions)

Oh my goodness. The game launches instantly with Proton 6.3-8 and seems to run fine. I'll do a little more testing and then post a report on ProtonDB.

I agree I just had all kinds of problem with "theHunter Call of the Wild" and had to try Proton versions from Experimental all the way to 6. something .... also read the Custom Proton suggestions as that is what finally helped me along with answers from board members here .... after adding it to my Launch Parameters the game runs like a dream .....

But I'm sure you already know about all this stuff ..... I'm just a newbie to running Steam Games .....
