My goal is to have a taskbar on the bottom of the screen as well as one on the top. I want to have all my apps show on the bottom and on the top task bar I want to put the system icons and the date/time. Possibly a link to the applications icon. Is that possible in the core version or do I need to have pro?
You can have as many as you want on Zorin OS Lite... I currently have three, one on each monitor.
When you have a layout in Zorin Appearance that uses a taskbar, you can rightclick on the taskbar to open the taskbar settings. At tab Action scroll down and enable "Show original gnome shell topbar".
Or you can install the gome extension "Dash to panel", there you can enable the original gnome shell topbar at tab "finetune".
I have no Zorin pro. I just used the normal settings of the taskbar.
What you're describing sounds like the "macOS-style" layout, which is available only in Zorin OS Pro:
However, you can also select the regular "GNOME Shell-like" layout, and install a Gnome extension that provides another dock. It won't look the same as the Zorin OS taskbar, but it might be enough for you:
To install extensions, you can install the Extension Manager from the software store.
The Mac OS layout is EXACTLY what I'm talking about. I will try the GNOME one until 18 comes out. I purchased 16 Pro shortly before 17 came out, and I want the latest now so I'll wait for 18.
You could try if this extension works together with the dock until Zorin 18 will be released:
Here I used Zorin dash (dock) and the Compact Top Bar gnome extension:
This look can be made with normal Zorin taskbar settings (it is not the dock!!!) without using an extra extension:
The length and width of the panel can be set individually.
The Zorin Dock Gnome Extension is actually installable with the Command sudo apt install gnome-shell-extension-zorin-dash
This is a Zorin modified Version of Dash To Dock.
@fredjclaus: If You want customize the Top Bar to get Icons on it and changing the Colors individually, there are 2 Gnome Extension for it:
Just tried open bar. It is really nice to customize the topbar!!
That's really good to know! The gnome extension manager is unfortunately a little clumsy finding accurate results.
