Session is randomly locked

Hi, I am a ZorinOS new user.

I installed Zorin 16 Pro a week ago and I like it very much (I was using Linux Mint with no problems). Unfortunately, the session randomly closes every now and then. Every 1 to 15 minutes or maybe more, the graphical desktop disappears. Then, a black screen with white characters is shown for a second, it looks like a system login, waiting for the username and password to be entered. Then the graphical login screen comes up again. When I login again, all applications are closed, as if it was the first time I was logging in.

Eventually, on of those times, before the login black screen showed, I could take a picture of the following:
[ 259.461407] nouveau 0000:01:00.0: Xorg[1568]: failed to idle channel 2 [Xorg[1568]]

Any help will be appreciated. I like ZorinOS but I don't think I can work like this.

Did you set any power saving mode?

No

No, as far as I know. Btw, the session closes even if I'm actively working with the keyboard and mouse.

It sounds like a RAM issue to me.
I remember when I lost one of the RAM slots, I had a random lockup.
Running mem test?

I am going to agree with FrenchPress.

Lets begin the MEMTEST very fine mammouth, and lets hope that RAM passes and shows you how great they are. But if just one of those sticks manages to fail you, out the window that RAM stick goes, and is left out, for system stability, until such time, a new stick can be inserted.

I disagree- this looks like Graphics Crash.

What is in /var/log/syslog?

What Nvidia card are you using?

He did not say hes using a nvidia card.

I think we are all obsessed by NVidia at the moment

Yeah, cause Nvidia is the best lol

I thought Nouveau is installed when there is a NVidia card.

That driver is indeed used by nvidia cards . I thought it was a universal driver for all cards.

I noticed the thread is in a wrong category (Feedback).
I changed it to General Help to attract more volunteers.

Sometimes you make me smile

It is a rather old discussion, but it seems the solution is to use proprietary NVidia driver instead of Nouveau.

Hello everyone. Thanks for your replies.

The GPU is, indeed, an nVIDIA, GeForce GT 630.
What lines should I filter on syslog?
If I grep on nouveau, there are thousands of lines looking like

I had no similar problems on this PC before installing ZorinOS so I want to think RAM is OK. I am executing memtest tonight and I'll tell you about the result anyway.

Thanks all for your help.

You could check Additional Driver to see which driver you are currently using.
Mine looks like this:

I was using Nouveau drivers. I switched to the same drivers you showed (NVIDIA driver metapackage...470
I am experiencing no problems at the moment. I will tell you otherwise.
