Setting up launcher for application

Ok. I'm 90% of the way there. I'm trying to add MadViewer3D to the Graphics menu. I copied the folder into "usr/bin/" and se all my permissions so could add it. IT SHOWS UP!(Yay!)
But when I click on it an icon shows up in plank (I use plank), and never opens a window. (Boo!) Even set to execute in terminal didn't work.
How I make go?

Did you create a desktop file for this application and place it in /usr/share/applications
or
in ~/.local/share/applications
?
