I've had the wallpaper a while and it probably came from an image search for Halloween wallpapers.
Hi fellow Zorin-ists,
i tried to alter the look and feel of Zorin Linux to resemble my known MacOS-workflow (which i have been using for 25 years), like Dock, Desktop-Icons, left side window control, ...
Coming from a design background, i still think, that one of the major selling points (easy customization, with possibility to resemble MacOS) of Zorin might also be the biggest issue for it as well.
In my opinion the design is still not beeing enough MacOS-like out of the box.
Because there are plenty of Windows-like (using KDE, Mint, whatever) distributions already available, Zorin needs to stand out at the Mac-Design front.
The style of Zorin, therefore needs some small updates, concerning the use of icons, wallpapers, overall just little alterations here and there to look more "awesome" out of the box.
Gnome already does a good job here, but Zorin might do even better, without big development costs or whatnot.
Besides i am more than happy with Zorin OS and recommend it to new users as well as tech or design pros, because you still, with little effort, can make Zorin the best (looking) Linux possible. And its stable as well, compared to Kubuntu, newest Ubuntu and so on.
Just for the looks, i did this to feed my needs:
Installed (ACTIVE) Extensions:
- App Hider (to get rid of bad looking icons of programs you still might need)
- Blur my Shell (better looking Application view)
- Control Blur effect on lock screen (to make it look better and more consistent)
- Dash to dock (not animated)
- Custom reboot (to startup my windows partition)
- Caffeine (to prevent from going into sleep mode)
as well as
- User themes (already comes with Zorin)
- Zorin App indicators
- Zorin desktop icons (which i find better than the Gnome Desktop version)
- Zorin menu (which looks and feels better out of the box, than the not pre-configured, downloadable extensions)
All other extensions are turned off.
For Icons i use:
- KORA
Mouse pointer is
- MacOS
Desktop look is a mix-up of
Zorin "Dark grey" for the shell
extended with
"Yaru-Blue-Dark" theme for applications.
Some application icons have been tweaked, like Zorin Menu (please add the possibility for icon change) and App starter in Dock.
My Wallpapers are different "4k abstract wallpapers" (just google...)
Hope you like it!
You have just given me an idea for Q4OS. I will create temporary different login users to match the different OS Theming in Plasma 5.27.5!
Then I will do a video ... think I need to do this as a VM for streaming.
Just installing Q4OS inside of Q4OS - screen shows I was able to correct the Display Setting to the correct one during install:
Initial Desktop Layout in Live Mode:
Oh, a Dream in (nordic) Blue. @Aravisian should be delighted.
Yoooooooo that’s one sick desktop, wallpapers dope af.
Dope desktop
Dope as always
I do random searches and save to a holiday folder , so I don't remember where I got them most of the time.
Oh @Winged1 its ok i saved and cropped your screenshot and searched using the image on Google Images and i found a source I was able to grab it from thanks.
so decided to install the Plasma DE , must say there's A LOT of settings lol. Gonna have to get used to it , but so far i like it !
And doesn't seem much slower than Xfce , so far ...
Anyway here's some screenshots
btw: just installed the DE ,not the FULL or STANDARD Plasma DE
looking forward to tinkering and asking questions
looked at htop
in both Xfce and Plasma now ,with same activities open
Xfce
Plasma
Plasma definately uses more memory (obviously),but i'll see how long i can live with that.
Yes, it is. On the first View that can be intimidating. But when you were gone throught it, it is set up like You want/need it.
yes , already got my keyboard shortcuts set up like i want them for instance i had a shortcut for each app i use the most in Xfce , got it working in Plasma now too yay lol
i love keyboard shortcuts it's just way faster than pointing mouse and clicking.
Anyway , Plasma now is like a new toy for me , was getting bored with the same thing day in day out , if you get what i mean
PS: i love Xfce , it's simple and fast and very customisable and solid , but i wanted to try something different , so instead of installing another distro yet again , i thought lemme just go with a different DE and see
