Nautilus as one thing. It have difficult handle 1000+ images without crashing.

Does Cosmic Files use Tracker3, if it is did you try to disable it and try if it crash again ?

I said that because if Cosmic Files can't handle 1000+ images without crash, Tracker3 could be the culprit, but apparently it use another caching engine who could be your culprit :wink:
It is the same when you are in list view ?

I think I phrased myself wrong. It's nautilus I use in Cosmic DE, because Cosmic file file browser doesn't support copy/paste on the rename option yet.

I tried Cosmic, for me this DE is not ready yet. Gnome, Cinnamon, Kde plasma are ahead by a lot.

They have years of development, so it's quite amazed how far Cosmic DE has come on short time.
