Should I install applications for Debian based or Ubuntu based?

I used to have Pop OS as my main OS and I started using Zorin Core 16 a while ago, but I have a few doubts about which alternative of installation I should choose. On the latest Pop OS I used to install the alternatives for Ubuntu Jammy, but Iḿ not sure if the Ubuntu Jammy alternatives are suitable for Zorin Core 16,l are they? If not, what alternatives should I use?

Both Pop_OS and Zorin OS are based on Ubuntu.
However, Pop_OS is a much larger deve team. Their latest release is based on Ubuntu 22.04 (jammy).
Zorin OS 16, the current latest release is based on Ubuntu 20.04 (Focal).
You can use the Focal Packages the same way as you used Jammy on Pop_OS.
Just be sure to use Focal Packages, not Jammy on Zorin OS 16.

The soon coming Zorin OS 17 will be based on Ubuntu 22.04
