Slower internet in Zorin 17 but not windows 11

I am brand new to Zorin OS and have found that my internet is very slow under Zorin, I have tried the cable from my windows pc to the zorin pc which makes no difference, a speed test online shows me at only 10mb, and windows machine shows me at 150mb, which is correct

would appreciate any idea why this is please

Can you please post the terminal output of

sudo lshw -C network

to show your network cards and drivers?

Here is a help site from Zorin:

Please disable secure boot and fast boot in your BIOS and also disable fast startup in Windows if you have a dual boot system.

I don't have these boot options in my bios, its a basic computer/thin client, I wiped windows

It is a ethernet driver that is contained in the kernel. The ethernet card is recognized.

Try to turn off the router and then reconnect, also shutdown the computer completely.

I'm not sure why there is shown 10Mbit/s as size.

You could try to download the driver manually:

http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/r/r8168/r8168-dkms_8.049.02-1ubuntu1_all.deb

Doubleclick on the downloaded file to install it and then reboot.

will give that a go then thanks!

First try to turn off router and computer and do a fresh restart.

It's now worse than before I have had to login to here on my phone as the network icon has disappeared from the taskbar bar next to the clock and i can't get online

I'm sorry about that! Unfortunately, I don't know what to do right now, but it can be undone. A moderator surely can help you.

Welcome to the Forum!

Did You take a Look in the ''Additional Drivers'' Tab in Software & Updates if there is a Driver offered?

And how is your PC connected? A Cable goes from Your Machine to the Router, is that correct?

I'm not sure, but I think with

sudo apt purge r8168-dkms

and

sudo modprobe r8169

you can remove the installed driver package and go back to the r8169 driver version that was used before.

I dont know where that is, but anyway, any updates I was offered I took, but I'm starting to wish i stayed on windows, as even though its a privacy nightmare "it just works" my pc is upstairs connected via a cat6 cable that goes into my powerline adaptor, and another powerline adaptor is downstairs next to my router and is plugged into that, is there a way to reverse what I have installed after reading this thread please as 10mb is better than being offline.

The additional drivers tab is in this menu.

You can get to it when you click on the hamburger menu at the top right of software manager and choose Software&Updates there, or you can go to the category system tools in the zorin start menu and select Software&Updates there. It is named differently in various languages.

it appears you have solved it man, Thanks so much, I was getting so P*ssed off with it!

I removed what I had installed like you instructed

Is the internet faster now? Connected - 1000 Mb/s looks good.
I hope you can have more positive experiences with Zorin. I'm sorry that this was such a bad beginning with the new operating system and that my suggestion made it even worse.
