Software Package Failure

Well...I'm not sure what to do. Software Updater notified me today that there were Zorin updates to install, I let to go through it's process but it just sat and hung without finishing for hours. I closed it out, restarted, tried it again and got this. Running the commands in terminal and trying to install Synaptic in Software gave me the same error.

I also tried running "sudo apt clean" like the support page suggested but got the error again. There's nothing else running that I can see. All programs are closed out.

E: Could not get lock /var/cache/apt/archives/lock. It is held by process 8713 (aptd)
N: Be aware that removing the lock file is not a solution and may break your system.
E: Unable to lock directory /var/cache/apt/archives/

Does anything help here?

If worst comes to the worst, I would backup all your critical data and look at a fresh install, but try the means of last resort, after you have backed up all your data, including hidden files.

In the little popup window in your picture, did you run the suggested sudo apt install -f?

I did, but it gave me the same error in terminal that you see for the synaptic program manager.

Thanks I'll try those steps with another restart.

That worked. I restarted a second time, then followed those instructions. Software updater now seems to be working properly. Thank you!
