If i am not wrong malware designed for windows wont even work on linux.

Brave A.I. search via mojeek gives good advice:

"#

Wine and Mono Security Vulnerability

Wine and Mono can introduce some security risks to a Linux system, but these risks are generally manageable and do not make the system inherently vulnerable if proper precautions are taken.

Wine

Wine is a compatibility layer that allows running Windows applications on Linux. It does not inherently pose a significant security risk by itself. However, running untrusted Windows applications through Wine can expose the system to potential vulnerabilities. If a malicious application is run through Wine, it can potentially exploit vulnerabilities in the Wine environment or in the applications themselves. However, such exploits are unlikely to spread beyond the Wine environment and can be mitigated by running Wine in a sandbox or under a separate user account.

Mono

Mono is a cross-platform implementation of the .NET Framework. It allows running .NET applications on Linux. While Mono itself is not a security risk, running untrusted .NET applications can expose the system to potential vulnerabilities. Similar to Wine, the risks are primarily associated with running potentially malicious applications. Proper security practices, such as keeping Mono and its dependencies up to date, can help mitigate these risks.

General Precautions

  • Keep Wine and Mono Updated : Ensure that both Wine and Mono are up to date to avoid known vulnerabilities.
  • Use Sandboxing : Running Wine and Mono in a sandboxed environment can limit the potential damage from malicious applications.
  • Run as Non-Root User : Running Wine and Mono applications as a non-root user can prevent them from making system-wide changes.
  • Use Antivirus Software : Although not strictly necessary for Linux, some users prefer to use antivirus software to scan applications before running them through Wine or Mono.

In summary, while Wine and Mono can introduce some security risks, these risks are manageable with proper precautions and do not significantly increase the overall vulnerability of a Linux system."

Just make sure your system is kept up-to-date.

The Problem here would be that it would work trough WINE.

To @Tombar: What the Article says it, that through WINE for Windows made Viruses could run on Linux because WINE (and other Emulators) are made for running Windows Software. And they recommend to use Virtual Machines.

That isn't directly wrong and no Secret. So, you have to care what software You run. But that is in the common Usage not different. And when You don't need WINE, You don't have to install it. And it doesn't come preinstalled. So, You wouldn't have to do anything.

Strange! I thought it was preinstalled :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

No, You only have a Link preinstalled for Windows App Support. But this Link doesn't do anything except bring You to Gnome Software to install it. So, you don't have to do something. The only Thing You could do is uninstall the Windows App Support Link.
