Startup and shutdown sounds

Hi all
I’m new to the forum and a newbie to Zorin OS. I installed the newest version Zorin 18 Core as a dual boot with Windows 11 on a Dell Inspiron 15 laptop. I want to install startup and shutdown sounds but everything online looks really complicated. So could someone here please simplify the process step by step how to do this and include terminal commands if I need to do this through the terminal? Please? And thank you very much in advance

You can enable the startup sound in startup applications, then you can hear a sound at startup.

Welcome to the Forum!

First activate the Startup Sound like Forpli already explained. If You want to use a custom Sound, it seems to be difficult to add an own Sound. Maybe the Answer from this can help:

Unfortunately there is no easy method and you'll have to try some things until it works.

Here is a guide for ubuntu, but in Zorin it is not the same because the default sound theme is Zorin theme.

Edit:
To set a custom startup sound, create an entry at startup applications and enter in the command field the following command. Adapt the path to the sound file you want. I have downloaded the Smooth sound theme for testing purposes.

Best is, create a new entry and don't edit the original startsound entry - that was my mistake.

You're the man! This worked for the login sound. Now how do I make a shutdown sound? I've downloaded windowsXP startup and shutdown sounds in ogg format. I have them working in windows 11 now I'm trying to get them both working here in Zorin OS

Unfortunately I didn't get it to work for a custom sound, only for the default zorin theme sound at desktop-logoff (which isn't really a shutdown sound). But you can try it with the method of the ubuntuhandbook link. Maybe you have more luck. Maybe you can try to replace the sound in the Zorin theme for desktop logoff - but I'm not sure if it would work.

Remember I'm a newbie to Zorin OS Could you please type out step by step how I would do this for a shutdown sound? Again I already have the windows XP startup and shutdown sounds in ogg format saved in my home saul downloads folder currently

Sorry, I haven't been able to do it with the Gnome desktop, so unfortunately I can't give you any instructions for that. It would be easier with Zorin Lite, where you could add a command to the startup applications and set as trigger the shutdown. Or in the Cinnamon desktop, you can also set a user-defined sound for shutdown in the normal sound settings. KDE also offers this option.
For Gnome, you would probably have to write a script to be executed during shutdown. Unfortunately, I am not familiar with scripting.
Maybe someone else can help you.
